The end of the week brings happiness to those who participated in our Rooney Giveaway. Two lucky winners will be seeing Rooney live at the Music Box in Los Angeles tomorrow, Saturday 18. Opening for Rooney will be Topanga rockers The Young Veins and Brooklyn indie band Black Gold. To enter, all you had to do was tell us where the name Rooney came about and how the band decided to name it that. Having an album titled Eureka implies invention, even rediscovery, yet Rooney’s latest album offers twelve tracks of familiar pop rock that shows little progress between albums by the band. Rooney hails from Los Angeles, and is comprised of Robert Schwartzman, Louie Stephens, Taylor Locke, Ned Brower, and Brandon Schwartzel. The five-piece rock band is signed to Geffen Records, yet they recorded and produced Eureka themselves on their own label, California Dreamin’ Records, through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group.

In support of their new album, EUREKA, Rooney is getting ready to hit the road on their North American headlining tour which will begin June 16th in San Diego, CA. The tour will feature new songs from EUREKA which was released on June 8th. If you haven’t heart their first single, “I Don’t Want to Lose You,” you can listen to it here for free.
EUREKA, the bands third studio album, was produced and created by the band members themselves, making the tracks on the album Rooney’s most original material to date.

Thomas Mars, frontband of the band Phoenix, is going to be contributing original music for Sophia Coppola’s next film, Somewhere. This news shouldn’t be much of a surprise to anyone, as Mars is the father of their child Romy. Nonetheless, the news is exciting for those who have waited on this collaboration to happen for quite some time.
