Tenacious D are getting back together. That’s not opinion, that’s fact. Jack Black and Kyle Gass are set to release The Rize of the Fenix on May 15, which will be the first album in sex years from Tenacious D. As an album trailer, the comedy troupe decided to put together a short parody video that features several famous celebrities including Val Kilmer.
The D (!) is headed to San Francisco for the 2009 Outside Lands Music Festival. The D we speak of is Tenacious D, aka Jack Black and Kyle Glass, who were chosen to replace the Beastie Boys as the Sunday night headliner.
The music festival is set to run from August 28-30 in Golden Gate Park. The festival’s killer line-up includes Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, Band of Horses, The National, Dead Weather, Black Eyed Peas and many more.
Sunday’s night show will mark Tenacious D’s first appearance in the Bay Area in three years and debut on the festival circuit.
EA Games and Double Fine Productions will release Brütal Legend on October 13, starring Jack Black as the voice of Eddie Riggs, an experienced roadie who’s transported into the legendary “Age of Rock” to fight evil. The game is designed by Tim Schafer, who you might recall from the Monkey Island series, Grim Fandango, and Psychonauts.
Eddie recruits an army of headbangers, and fights to save the alternate world from demons. The main enemy is a glam rocker, called General Lionwhyte, whose shining, enormous hair allows him to fly. Tenacious D has teamed up with Gamestop to offer an in-game guitar to those who pre-order the game, check it out after the jump:
