The release of a compilation by The Smiths is nothing new, which most likely means that once again many fans will be fostering the idea of the band’s reunion. It would be advised that no one should hold their breath at the notion; still, The Smiths are a fine example at how hitting the figurative jackpot doesn’t equal to complete and outright commercial success. Who would have known that actually wielding talent at a receptive audience might have resulted in a lasting impression?

The Twilight Sad will be coming out with a new album and cover renditions of Joy Division and The Smiths will be on the limited edition. The Twilight Sad Killed My Parents and Hit The Road is expected to have a total of ten tracks which will also include previously unreleased material, new songs, and live recordings from Glasgow.
A few specific covers on the album are: The Smiths’ “Half A Person,” Joy Division’s “Twenty Four Hours,” and the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s “Modern Romance.” CDs will be sold at upcoming shows as they support Mogwai on tour, and an mp3 will be available in December.

The Smiths are back! Did the ever really leave? The Smiths are really ’80′s Royalty. What these Brit’s did for pop-rock changed the music scene then and still influences it today. Rhino announces the release of THE SOUND OF THE SMITHS, a new collection of classic and rare recordings that will be available November 11. The compilation was completed with the full cooperation of Morrissey, who provided the title, and Johnny Marr, who personally supervised the mastering. They both assisted in the track selection, and their joint involvement ensures that this will be the most comprehensive look back at The Smiths’ extraordinary career to date.

Rumors of a Smiths reunion are flying today in the UK. The Sun is reporting that other original members of the band are close to inking a deal that would reunite the band for a one-off show at the Coachella Festival.
If The Smiths reunite for Coachella, it would be the first time in 21 years that Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce have played together. Reportedly, a huge sum of money and a new manager has been helpful in convincing Morrissey to agree to the gig. He supposedly turned down £2.8 milion (about $4.4 million) in 2006 to play the festival.
