Thee Oh Sees CP 9 4 2010a FYF Fest 2010: AA Bondy

I could have gone to see Best Coast but as I was getting ready to embed myself into the heavier acts, I thought a set from AA Bondy was in order for the perfect mood setting. This was definitely one artist I was incredibly happy to see FYF Fest put on the main Redwood stage because when AA Bondy opens his mouth to sing, he moves your soul.

If you haven’t heard of A.A. Bondy yet, you’re missing out. The solo folk singer, real name Scott Bondy, uses A.A. as a shortened version of Auguste Arthur – his birth name. Makes you wonder how Scott came about, doesn’t it? Nonetheless, Scott’s name isn’t what we’re interested in – it’s his music!

AA Bondy is a folk/alternative artist hailing from Birmingham, Alabama. His debut album, American Hearts, was recorded onto an old tape 8 rack in an old farmer’s barn and released in 2007. He must have done something right though, because he was lucky enough to play last year’s Sasquatch Festival and Bonnaroo as well. Now signed to Fat Possum Records, Bondy has recently released his second album, When the Devil’s Loose, released September 2009.

Those Darlins 1 LA 112309 Concert Picks: Those Darlins, AA Bondy, Vivian Girls...

We have five reasons for you to get out off the couch this weekend for reasons other than spontaneously yelling “TOUCHDOWN!” or running to the kitchen for chips and beer. Check out our concert picks below:

  • Those Darlins | Friday, February 5 | 8:00 pm | 18+ | $13 | Bowery Ballroom, New York, NY – Map | Country rock never sounded so edgy, so sixties, so fresh. No doubt about it, our recent BeatCrave Fav was chosen for a reason. These girls are seriously fabulous.  Biased? Never! With The So So Glos and Pine Hill Haints - Buy Tickets
  • Helen Stellar | Friday, February 5 | 8:30 pm | 21+ | $5 | Spaceland, Los Angeles, CA – Map | Rock isn’t dead, neither is band ideology. Hidden, yes, albeit slightly by the influx of robot-like stylings and everyone else who “wants to be a star”. Helen Stellar has been around for a while, so its members know what we’re referring to. It’s refreshing to hear that they’ve kept their heads about them, for the benefit of our ears and minds. With Shiloe, Wet & Reckless and Dirt Bird – Buy Tickets
