Joe Perry Released From Hospital After Motorcycle Accident Joe Perry Released From Hospital After Motorcycle Accident

After all of the Steven Tyler hoopla earlier this year that had many Aerosmith fans wondering if the band would ever be the same, the last thing we need now that Aerosmith has its house in order is for lead guitarist Joe Perry to go get himself rear-ended by a car when he’s cruising on his motorcycle.

Proving that nothing – absolutely nothing – can kill the spirit of rock ‘n roll (or in this case, an over-the-hill rock-turned-radio-pop band who realized their lifestyle wasn’t going to sustain itself on “Jaded” royalties), AP reports that Aerosmith has announced their European summer tour – with almost ex-frontman Steven Tyler.

The mudslinging continues in the “are-they or aren’t-they Aerosmith” breakup that probably should have occurred fifteen years ago. Amidst rumors of a Billy Idol takeover (setting this story’s relevance back to, say, 1985), and even Paul Rogers of Bad Company (ok, 1975), Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has confirmed to Classic Rock Magazine that his current sparring partner/ supposed former lead singer Steven Tyler did try out for Led Zeppelin after Robert Plant declined to tour in 2008.

At first blush, the news of Billy Idol possibly in the driver’s seat to replace Steven Tyler as frontman of Aerosmith just doesn’t ‘feel’ right. That’s not a knock on Idol, but it’d definitely be a drastic change.

Classic Rock magazine has reported Idol was due to meet with the band members but pulled out after falling sick.

The news of Steven Tyler’s exit as lead vocalist for Aerosmith has shaken up the rock n’ roll world. But guitarist Joe Perry says the band will go on – with or without Tyler belting out all those memorable tunes. Perry took to Twitter late Monday to say that Aerosmith is “not splitting up” but “looking for a new singer to work with.”

So there you go Aerosmith fans – welcome to your very own version of David Lee Roth vs. Sammy Hagar, a debate that has been part of Van Halen’s legacy since the mid-’80s.
