Here are a few entertaining news stories from this Labor Day weekend…

• The single” 21 Guns” off of Green Day‘s latest album, 21^st Century Breakdown has been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album’s first digital single, “Know Your Enemy,” went gold earlier this summer.
• The #1 DJ Fan Competition is back! DJMag wants to to find the biggest, most dedicated DJ fan in the world. If you participate in their contest you could win a trip to London for the Top 100 DJs party on October 28th. [DJMAG]
• Taking Back Sunday and All American Rejects are co-headling a tour starting this November. Both bands will be promoting their latest albums entitled, New Again and When the World Comes Down.
• Jason Reeves will also hit the stage this fall with an acoustic tour starting on November 12th. [Jason Reeves]
• Pop-Soul duo Nikki & Rich have signed on with Warner Bros Records. Their debut album is set for release next year, but you can hear their first single “Cat & Mouse” on the premiere episode of The CW hit, 90210 on September 8th. [Nikki&Rich]

While the Dave Matthews Band tries to capitalize on the music industry by selling multiple albums at a time, the highly anticipated Fall Out Boy album, Folie a Deux is finally out. The All-American Rejects are scheduled to release their eagerly awaited third album WHEN THE WORLD COMES DOWN, on November 18th on DGC/Interscope/Doghouse.  The new album follows-up the RIAA double-platinum Move Along, released July 2005.  WHEN THE WORLD COMES DOWN is The All-American Rejects’ first project with veteran producer Eric Valentine, known for his work with multi-platinum artists Maroon 5, Smash Mouth, Good Charlotte, Queens Of the Stone Age, and more.

In one of the most anticipated events of the past decade, Oklahoma’s Official Rock Song Advisory Panel – now that is a really long name, which goes along with how little work they must do – has named ten finalists for the honor of being named Oklahoma’s official rock song.  The songs are split between songs you’ve never heard about Oklahoma and songs by famous bands from Oklahoma that have nothing to do with Oklahoma.

The winner gets an exhibit in the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame.  The existence of an Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame confirms my belief that Hall of Fames have gotten out of control.  There are Hall of Fames for everything, so much so that they have to take people who aren’t even famous, making them no longer even fit their own names.  But they create cushy jobs for some people and probably bring in some government money, so they’ll continue to proliferate.
