yellowbirds Concert Picks: The Space Age Bachelor, Yellowbirds, Baron Von Luxxury...

Dearest Reader,

We know you’ve been aching for winter to be over. Trust us, we have, too. With signs of warmer weather in the nearish-midst – only to be quashed by rain, snow, and chilling cold – it’s a bummer to be wearing coats, heavy boots, and lots o’ layers when our skin is begging to be kissed by the sun. And so we offer this silver lining of a less literal sort until the weather decides to catch up: five bands rounding with the energy to transport all who listen to the warmer portions of spring time in our brain’s anticipatory, daydream-y sectors.

You’re welcome. Happy weekend-ing,

as21 Asobi Seksu At Hotel Cafe: Concert Photos

Asobi Seksu stopped by LA for a few dates and we were able to catch them this weekend at The Hotel Cafe. Although the dream pop band is often known for their textured and effect-heavy sound that also blends their pop into the shoegaze genre, Saturday night was stripped down to an acoustic set with lead vocalist Yuki Chikudate offering a more intimate side of the band.

Perfectly rearranged for the setting of the famous Hotel Cafe in Hollywood, Asobi Seksu offered clean and vivid dreams without all the fuzzy distortion. Take a look at our photo gallery below!

nicostai Concert Picks: Nico Stai, Asobi Seksu, Bottle Rockets...

Thank God It’s Friday? More like Ticketholders, Get In Front. These are our concert picks for the weekend, and yes, we’re just as antsy as you are to get things started already.

  • Nico Stai | Friday, October 16 | 9:00 pm | Free | Ghettogloss Galery, Los Angeles, CA – Map | Cameras, bodies, live shoots – this sounds like it’s going to be all sorts of cool. Whether intentional or otherwise, Nico Stai’s greatly channels a flavor akin to Paul Simon and Michael Stipe of REM that works within his realm of lyrical experimentation. And hell, drinks, music, cameras, et al – if you are want for reason to get out of the house tonight -  seriously, look no further. For more information, visit his official MySpace.
  • Asobi Seksu | Friday, October 16 | 8:00 pm | Bowery Ballroom, New York, NY – Map | Guitars, dreamy sequences, lots of shoegaze – bet you can’t just have one. This New York based band has what we want in copious amounts. This is to be among the last of their most recent tour dates in the U.S. before they head across the pond for the better part of the rest of the year – Buy Tickets

 Asobi Seksu: BeatCrave Fav

Not only does Asobi Sesku mean “casual or playful sex” in Japanese, but it is also the name of band who blends indie pop and shoegaze together so perfectly, your heart just melts. Fronted by Yuki Chikudate and James Hanna, this band goes from ethereal layered vocals to dance pop beats soaked in gauzy guitars. Rich in texture and undeniably catchy melodies, Asobi Seksu is overwhelmingly charming. With their latest album, Hush, released in February, Asobi Seksu continues to churn out well-crafted songs sung in both Japaneses and English, such as “Me & Mary” – a perfect contender for an indie pop dance party.

Check Asobi Sesku out in our BeatCrave Fav series below! We’ve got all the details you could ever want on the band. If you dig Asobi Seksu as much as I think you should, remember to vote for them in Friday’s poll!

New Music Video: Asobi Seksu’s “Me & Mary”

Friday, February 6, 2009 1:00PM - By

NYC indie band, Asobi Seksu, has just premiered their music video for “Me & Mary.” The track is off their upcoming and third album, Hush, which is due for release on Februrary 17th via Polyvinyl Records. Yuki Chikudate and James Hanna stand still in different black and white outfits for the most part, but their shifting background has ADD and we like it. Sweet indie pop melodies over fuzzy guitar, simple black and white palette over a million patterns… we like all of it.

Do you like it as much as we do?
