Well, fans of Nine Inch Nails and/or lead Nail Trent Reznor’s score for David Fincher’s The Social Network have a big reason to rejoice this holiday season–details have just been released concerning the score to Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, composed by Reznor and collaborator Atticus Ross.  The most interesting detail?  The soundtrack–not the movie, but the soundtrack–is over three hours long.

Back when he was sharing his, uh, “interesting” sexual opinions on tunes like “Closer,” we doubt that Trent Reznor ever would have imagined that he’d be on stage accepting any kind of Academy Award, but last night he took home a trophy for his work on The Social Network along with collaborator Atticus Ross. However, that’s not the only project these two have worked on together–they’re also in a group with Reznor’s wife, Mariqueen Maandig, called How to Destroy Angels, and according to Billboard they’ve recently finished recording a new release under that name.

Listen Another Trent Reznor Track From The Social Network Listen: Another Trent Reznor Track From The Social Network

Facebook may have died for a short amount of time yesterday just in time for everyone to be talking about the upcoming film, The Social Network. (Could it all have been part of Justin Timberlake’s evil plot?) It could be because it’s only a week a way from the film’s release. It could be because Trent Reznor gave away five free songs from the score. It could also be because we have yet another track from the film for you to listen to. Take a listen to track #6 by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for The Social Network after the jump!

Trent Reznor Releases 5 Songs From The Social Network For Free Trent Reznor Releases 5 Songs From The Social Network For Free

The Social Network has sounded somewhat like a lame concept for a film from the beginning. (Let’s tell the story of guys behind Facebook!) It got even more laughable once the incredibly melodramatic trailer (with a choir singing Radiohead’s “Creep”) came out. Yes, some people may be interested in the creators of one of the most influential social media networks we have today. However, you can also wiki all of that. We don’t need a dramatized version of the life story. If we were going to watch a movie about a social network, it would be this one anyway – and yes, we’re well aware that it’s a spoof.

However, there’s always one thing that can save a story we could care less about – the music. Just look at what the second and third soundtracks for the Twilight Saga did! Bon Iver + Vampires = Tolerable! Broken Social Scene and Beck also revved Scott Pilgrim vs. The World up and now Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails is going to stamp some credibility on The Social Network‘s score. However, you can decide if the music will do a good enough job…
