Celebrating rock bands this week, we have new albums from Orange County’s own Project 86, heavy metal rockers Clutch, L.A. group Miss Derringer, among others. American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry has an album, Leave This Town, with his rock band Daughtry this week. Their track “No Surprise” is already a hit with audiences. The album has a pop-rock sound. MTV’s Rock the Cradle winner, Crosby Loggins’ album is another one to look out for. Again it has the mushy lyrics/melodies of a pop/rock album but the songs are catchy and worth giving a shot.

Some news from the music world from this past 4th of July weekend, and yes, Michael Jackson did dominate the media world yet again but we’ll focus on other news for now:

• July 4th is a day to be patriotic and celebrate the birth of the country as we know it.  There is no better way to celebrate then to listen to patriotic music.  PasteMagazine had listed the 12 patriotic songs which they think are better than the traditional Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.” The list includes Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the U.S.A,” Ray Charles with “America, the Beautiful” among others. • Legendary and ruthless record label owner, Allen Klein (pictured above) of ABKCO Music & Records (One of the largest independent labels in the world) died on the 4th of July, at the age of 77. According to the Dailymail in the UK, the man who managed the Rolling Stones and was seen as a key role player in the break-up of the Beatles, passed away in New York after battling the Alzheimer’s disease.
