 Aushua: BeatCrave Fav

If you haven’t already heard us gush about our favorite Santa Ana band, Aushua, here’s another chance.

This four-piece band comprised of three brothers of the Newyear family and long time friend, Nate Gammill, currently combines all the right sounds that reach far beyond SoCal. They’ve just released their latest EP, Limbo, come back home from a national tour and are about to take off on another slew of dates! With refreshing vocals and expansive sounds of rock, Aushua is bound to be in the major leagues some day soon.

If you haven’t gotten a chance to hear their music yet, check them out in our BeatCrave Fav series below where an exclusive interview and a review of their Limbo EP is included!

Review Aushuas Limbo EP Review: Aushua Limbo EP

After their phenomenal debut EP, No Harm Done, and a national tour, our favorite Santa Ana band, Aushua, is still dishing out incredible musicianship with their latest EP, Limbo.

Although the term, “limbo,” may indicate loss of movement and sense of direction, this sophomore EP couldn’t be more of a contradiction in terms of barriers. Self-released and just a smidge of the flavorful full-length album that is to come, this six-track record is beyond foreshadow in the time-line of rock history. Instead, this collection of songs break through the stigma of location and is a blatant red flashing sign that shouts “Going to be huge!”

Aushua Interview for Know Your LA Bands

BeatCrave brings you band, Aushua, as part of our Know Your LA Bands series. Although they are from the Santa Ana area, they have been making great friends and music over here in the LA music scene. With their foundation of folk-rock and a splash of new wave, they are more than deserving to be featured.

Brothers Phil, Eric, and Lee Newyear and long-time friend Nathan Gammill have made music together that breaks all stereotypes of the beach lover/skateboarder/surfer in the OC area. Gammill’s vocals are tenaciously delivered and the melodic guitars among the steady bass and drums create an amalgamation of classic comfort and refreshing edge.

Events This Weekend: Voxhaul Broadcast, Fischerspooner, The Shins…

voxhaul broadcast Events This Weekend: Voxhaul Broadcast, Fischerspooner, The Shins...

  • Voxhaul Broadcast (and Friends) | Friday, May 8 | 8:00 pm | $8 – $10 | Spaceland, Los Angeles, CA – Map | The Orange County-based band comes  baring a style that is at once tough and mellow, intricate and easy to digest. Seems to us that they’re attempting a subconscious approach at standing out by blending in pseudo-seamlessly with the crowd. Sneaky, much? In either case, it sounds like they’re in this for the long run, like their audible counterparts, the Kings of Leon. They will be playing with Local Natives, Aushua, and Rumspringa. Click here for tickets.
  • Fischerspooner | Friday, May 8 | 7:00 pm | 18+ | $27.50 – $32 | Webster Hall, New York, NY – Map | The heavily electric, avant-garde, new wave-esque duo have set their North American tour in motion. By liberally drowning audience members in sick beats and outrageous performance art involving numerous bodies onstage, they will  be promoting their recently released album, “Between Worlds”, and just, well, putting on what sounds like will be one hell of a show.  Click here for tickets.
  • The Giraffes | Saturday, May 9 | 10:30 pm | 21+ |  $10 | Mercury Lounge, New York, NY – Map | Wow. If you think you haven’t heard hard rock since Metallica, Soundgarden, or Alice in Chains, think again… long and hard. Do you think the band settled on their name because the animal is notoriously known for not making a sound? For ticket information, call (212) 260-4700.
