Ringo Starr was always less popular than John Lennon and Paul McCartney when it came to the Beatles craze. During the Beatles‘ time together as a band, it was mostly McCartney and Lennon taking charge of songwriting responsibilities. Both also had much say in how their albums were produced. The fact that they were the main songwriters didn’t necessarily guarantee their appeal with the young girls back in the day, but it didn’t hurt!
Although Starr will be collaborating with a full roster on his upcoming album, Y Not, the quiet Beatles drummer has finally decided to get in front and be the go-to guy on this project.
Now, we’re just amazed to find out that Bluebeat is confident they can win this battle. Does anyone else agree with them? Talk about being an underdog!
Musicians are provided with a plethora of websites to sell their music through. Indie favorites include CD Baby, eMusic, Amazon, The Orchard, Bandcamp, and even iTunes because of convenience. However, we still have yet to see the day when we we can digitally download the Beatles catalog with a few simple clicks.
As LA Times described it, “The Beatles catalog remains a Holy Grail,” even though we’ve told you all about the Beatles Rock Band franchise and more. However, it seems that all Beatles songs are ironically already available on a discount digital download site for only $0.25 each!

So we know we’re not always as up to date on all the new films like our sister site, ScreenCrave, is but if there is a biopic being made about a musician – specifically about one of the most famous musicians of all time – we’d like to think we’d be right on it. Unfortunately, that’s not the case for the John Lennon biopic, Nowhere Boy.
We’re not alone though. Even among all the crazy reincarnation of Beatlemania through lavish box sets and the booming Rock Band business deals, the film was kept quite on the down low until it recently premiered at the London Film Festival. What we know now (via TwentyFourBit) is that the film features John Lennon’s actual voice which are taken from interview recordings.
Aaron Johnson stars as Lennon (and looks nothing like the musician), but see if the trailer below entices you!
In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, The Beatleshave been experiencing a serious resurgence in popularity, partially due to the video game, The Beatles: Rock Band. In addition, EMI remastered and re-released all of the Beatles albums with new box sets, and boy has it paid off! In the five days after the September 9th release, 2.25 million albums were sold worldwide with a million in the U.S. alone. To say that the Beatles broke a few records along the way is an understatement.
Lucy Vodden, the woman who provided the inspiration for the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds has passed away after a long battle with lupus. She was 46 years old. Her death was announced Monday by St. Thomas Hospital in London where she had been treated for the chronic illness for more than five years. Britain’s Press Association said she died last Tuesday but hospital officials said they could not confirm the day of her death.
Michael Jackson’s estate includes the rights to 267 Beatles songs, and there has been some speculation as to who will get the ownership of the tracks. Paul McCartney denied rumors that he was given ownership of the songs, or that he was “devastated” when he didn’t receive them. From McCartney’s Official website:
“Some time ago, the media came up with the idea that Michael Jackson was going to leave his share in the Beatles songs to me in his will which was completely made up and something I didn’t believe for a second.”
That’s the intro for the upcoming Beatles: Rock Band game, by Passion Pictures revealed at the E3 Microsoft press conference. The animated music video looks like it has drawn influence from several different styles. I see some of Terry Gilliam’s Monty Python referenced, and Passion Pictures has been responsible for much of the visuals of the animated rock band Gorillaz.
Another trailer, for the Brutal Legend game featuring Jack Black, was released at E3, and it showed the four rock gods that will appear throughout the game. Guess who they are:
Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison, took the stage to present The Beatles: Rock Band at this year’s E3 Media & Business Summit. Multiple vocal harmonies are the main feature of the game, which will release on September 9.
All You Need Is Love will be a 360-exclusive downloadable single, with all the proceeds going to charity, to an aid group called Doctors Without Borders. The Beatles catalog will finally see a digital release on the same day as the game. Check the jump for some of songs that will be featured in Beatles: Rock Band:
