Before Blair moved to her current home in Brooklyn, New York, she grew up in New Orleans and traversed the lands of Orange County in California. She taught herself how to play guitar while listening to John Frusciante’s records, and ultimately ended up opening for the likes of Cat Power and Bright Eyes. Fast forward to two years ago– Blair releases her first EP: four songs of solid gold. Two years later, to start the new year off, she releases her latest: her debut full-length album, Die Young. Often compared to Neil Young, this songwriter in her mid-twenties has definitely got a lot ahead of her.

Album Review Blairs Die Young Album Review: Blairs Die Young

We’d like to think that pretty, happy-sounding music will receive a warm reception wherever showcased. While it does on the general whole,  the idea of just  pretty, happy-sounding music isn’t enough without a familiar, empathetic message behind it. There’s plenty to love about the three-minute pop song, but try lengthening it to about four or  five minutes and backing it  up by heavy mood, circumstance, and ill-gotten knowledge most all of us can relate to. Then you don’t have junk food – you’ve got yourself a whole meal.
