After a five-year hiatus, the punks of Blink 182 aren’t only going to put out a new record, but they’re also hitting the stage… all next summer. This probably means they will be headlining one of our favorite summer music festivals! For now, the boys have scheduled some dates across the pond and will be playing five shows in the U.K. during July 2011.

After a seven year gap between records, pop-punk (well, sorta punk… well, not really punk, but at least they are kind of funny… well, they used to be kind of funny) band Blink 182 is set to return with an album of new material next year, according to Spin.

Reading and Leeds Music Festival 2010 has planned some big things! If you stopped for a second and wondered if this headline was really true, don’t waste your time. All of that is happening on August 27 – 29. The Libertines are actually going to take the stage together again and yes, Axl Rose will be performing on the same stage as the beloved and melodramatic Canadian band, Arcade Fire. Oh yeah, Blink-182 is in there somewhere too.

The pop-emo hybrid that is Panic at the Disco has had a tough year. Rumors suffaced a while ago about the replacement of two of the groups core members, guitarist Ryan Ross and bassist Jon Walker. Ross and Walker announced their plans to leave the band earlier this month and according to Spin.com, two musicians are already in waiting to take their spots.

After five years, Green Day is coming back with a spanking new album, 21st Century Breakdown. The follow-up to the highly successful 2004 American Idiot will drop May 15th, and their first single will be “Know Your Enemy.” The album is supposedly going to have a throwback sound to Dookie as they worked with producer Butch Vig (also a member of Garbage). American Idiot was a rock opera with many detailed acts, and the new album may be the same. The album is divided into acts yet again: “Heroes and Cons,” “Charlatans and Saints,” and “Horseshoes and Handgrenades.” Hmm… Will this album be as successful? Are they just co-existing with Blink 182 for a year of pop disaster? Do you even care? Let us know!

In the process of noticing all the high profile punk / rock reunions, it’s sometimes easy to forget who the true pioneers are. Blink-182 was fun, and No Doubt were killer, but to remain completely relevant you have to stay true to not only yourself, but your aging fan base. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to handle any more songs about heart break from Tom Delong or a reggae-themed tune from Gwen any time soon.
With that said, enter Millencolin, who played at the delightful El Rey Theatre to approximately 800 kids last Friday in Hollywood, CA. Kids would be an understatement, as most of the people who showed up have long grown up – much like myself! It doesn’t seem like it’s been this long, but the Swedish lads in Millencolin have been making punk music for the last 16 years. 16 YEARS! I was probably 14 when I first gave them a listen, and have passionately been following them ever since.

It’s official. Blink 182 is reuniting. They’ve announced it through their website and as presenters on the Grammys. Also, this time they’re reuniting as the actual band, Blink 182.
Are we supposed to be celebrating this fact? Did anyone actually miss Blink 182? I mean, they’ve basically been around through their associated acts such as Box Car Racer and the oh so serious Angels and Airwaves. So, is this really a big deal? Back in the day, Blink 182 was a band that was “like SO punk” for high schoolers but do they really have the credibility to be a real punk band today? (Come on, who the hell says “my YED” instead of “my head?”) Are they just a starter punk band or are they really here to make music with substance?
These are just a lot of questions reflecting my opinion. So, tell me your thoughts. Are you throwing a party for Blink 182′s reunion?

The weekend’s over and the Grammys are done, so it’s time to catch up on the news that got put on the back-burner in the midst of all the awards ceremony hubbub. Here’s the scoop on a few of the latest happenings:
- You just saw Kings of Leon snatch up the Grammy award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for “Sex on Fire,” and now you can catch them live (and you really should if you haven’t already)! The Followill boys are embarking on their largest North American tour to date from mid-April to the end of May. This may be your last chance to see them before they head overseas to Australia and Europe, so check out the full list of Kings of Leon tour dates to see when their gritty brand of rock n’ roll comes to a town near you.
- Pearl Jam is joining some of music’s biggest names in the trend of self-releasing a new album without a label. Frontman Eddie Vedder told Rolling Stone that they are “close to hitting the studio” to record their ninth full-length album. Maybe Vedder and company are trying to do something noble by self-releasing their music (maybe we’ll get some free downloads), but the band isn’t short of corporate attachments. Pearl Jam will reissue their 1991 album “Ten” on March 23, but tracks will only be available through Verizon Wireless… and on Rock Band… So how do the non-sellout fans get their hands on this?
