Thursday June 10, 2010 marked the first day of Bonnaroo, one of the largest destination festivals in the U.S. Most patrons spend hours waiting in long lines of cars before being funneled through the gates and their possessions searched. The first part of the journey ends only after being crammed into double wide camping spaces and tents are erected. If it were any typical camping trip, you would probably stop to rest and maybe take a nap in the shade but when this journey is the beginning of the four-day music festival known as Bonnaroo, you’ve got no choice but to pound a few beers and head into Centeroo where some of the festivals first bands are competing for your ears. Despite playing host to what was, by most accounts, a pretty stellar lineup of excellent performers and performances (including from Jay-Z, Stevie Wonder, Conan O’Brien, Kings of Leon, Flaming Lips and Weezer) this year’s Bonnaroo Festival was not without its tragedies and legal hiccups. In between sessions of shoving that gremlin Snooki down our collective throats, MTV reports that “a 29-year-old man, North Carolina’s David Sloan, died on Sunday (June 13) after falling ill at the Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tennessee.” In addition, reports still coming in place the number of disorderly conduct, alcohol and drug-related (at Bonnaroo? Nooooo…) arrests at well over 100.

Here we have an interesting, if slightly deranged story. It appears that two lunatics, Dr. Ayman Al-Zawahiri and Jonathan Lee Riches, who are most likely residing in the lovely confines of a federal prison in Kentucky, have filed a lawsuit against Bonnaroo. Apparently the festival and its musical participants don’t blend well with the Muslim world as they view it, and thus a lawsuit is in order to rectify this musical madness.

Although Bonnaroo has been known since its inception in 2002, to be one of the more diverse of America’s summer music festivals (and a second-hand stoner’s paradise—contact highs abound), the Manchester, TN-based event is about more than tunes. Bonnaroo has annually played host to comedy sets from the likes of Chris Rock, David Cross, Dave Attell, Lewis Black and more (not to mention the fact that Conan O’Brien will be performing this year – go Team CoCo!), which makes today’s announcement a little less surprising. Superfly Productions, A.C. Entertainment and U.S. Cellular announced the formation of the inaugural Bonnaroo College Comedy Tour.
