As usual, the arrival of a new U2 album is being treated as something akin to the return of Jesus, and unfortunately, U2 lovefest 2009 shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.  If anything, it is gaining momentum.  First there was that over-enthusiastic 5 star Rolling Stone review of their new album, No Line On the Horizon.  Shortly thereafter, it was announced that they would be taking over the Late Show With David Letterman stage for a five night residency.  And now, out of NYC comes news that mayor Michael Bloomberg has decided to name a street after the band, temporarily, anyway.

springsteen650 Stars perform for Obama’s ‘We Are One’ Concert

The We Are One concert at the Lincoln Memorial pulled crowds with big names performing for the celebration of the inauguration of Barack Obama. Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen, Herbie Hancock, Sheryl Crow, Stevie Wonder, Bono and Garth Brooks took to the stage to sing classics like “This Land Is Your Land”, and “America the Beautiful”.

The Obamas held the seats of honor as the diverse lineup of talent played for the throng of people gathered. Historical passages were read by Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington, and Steve Carell and Jamie Foxx also got onstage for comic relief. Foxx even did an impersonation of Barack’s monotone, staccato voice, which the future president heartily enjoyed.

paulmccartney kn08 11 17 News: Paul McCartney Takes Credit for Lennons Politics

Not content with changing the authorship of the Beatles’ songs to raise himself above John Lennon, Paul McCartney is beginning attacks on Lennon’s politics.  In an interview with the U.K.’s Prospect magazine published Sunday, McCartney claimed that he was the Beatle who first became politically involved. McCartney said that a meeting he had with philosopher Bertrand Russell in the mid-60s was the first exposure any of the Beatles had to alternative thoughts on world events.  He says that he told Lennon of the meeting, inspiring Lennon’s later political stances.  McCartney went on to claim that his political work inspired Bono and Bob Geldorf in their work in Africa.
