Mike Love, current frontman for the Beach Boys and all-around Darth Vadar of the group, has always been a pretty honest, accurate guy.  After all, this is the guy who once derisively called ex-Beach Boy and pop genius Brian Wilson’s classic Smile record a “whole album of Brian’s madness,” and even further, once dropped this nugget on an unsuspecting populace while discussing why you should catch the current Brian Wilson-less live incarnation of the Beach Boys (a.k.a., not really the Beach Boys):  “Close your eyes and not only do we today replicate exactly how the original songs sounded, but the technology has gotten better so we even sound better.”  Because “Kokomo” always sounds good, no matter what half-assed reconfiguration of a once-classic band is performing it, am I right?

So when Spinner reports Love saying that all of the original surviving members of the Beach Boys are reuniting, including Brian Wilson (members Carl Wilson died of cancer in 1998 and Dennis Wilson drowned in 1983), you know you can believe it.

It seems like there hasn’t been anything in the news besides new touring bands, side projects, and possible collaborations.

Add this one to your mental notepad. Pair famous composer George Gershwin, known for his sophisticated and beautiful jazz standards like “Rhapsody in Blue ” and  “Someone To Watch Over Me”  with Beach Boy chief songwriter Brian Wilson, known for catchy hits like “I Get Around” and “California Girls,” and we have the first collaboration beyond the mortal realm.

The LA Times has reported that the estate of the George Gershwin recently authorized Wilson to complete some songs left behind when the composer passed away in 1937.
