rumspringa1 Concert Picks: Rumspringa, Electric Six, Modeselektor...

Another weekend, another line-up. We’d like to thank the following bands for making our job so easy.

  • Rumspringa | Friday, September 24 | 8:30 pm |  21+ | $8 | Bootleg Theater, Los Angeles, CA – Map | The LA-based band tickles us about ten shades of pink, they makes us feel something giddy. Their energy exists on a spectrum from mellow to highly charged an therefore is among the most contagious out there. Pretty much, to have it contained within the Bootleg’s warehouse walls serves as a challenge as to whether or not they can blow the roof off the joint, maybe, maybe piecing it together with a more smooth, blues-y composition. Being that this is their release party for their latest record, Sway, we can’t guarantee any promises other than a hell of a time. With Superhumanoids and Gamble House – Buy Tickets

Kings of Leon The Kings of Leon To Be Joined By Built To Spill, The Black Keys And More On The Road This Summer

After releasing one of 2008’s most inexplicably successful albums—the Allman Brothers-meets-Bono Only By the Night—rockers Kings of Leon continue to tour onward towards world dominion.  And, to aid them in their quest to conquer every set of ears listening to music in America and the UK, the band is wisely teaming up with a kaleidoscopic array of stylistically varied bands for their 2010 tour.   According to Consequence of Sound, the Kings will be joined this summer by Built to Spill, the Black Keys, the Whigs, The Features and The Stills—but, before your head explodes, know that this Rubik’s Cube of rock ‘n rollers won’t be featured all together, as the tour will feature a rotation of opening acts.

builttospill09 9 22 Album Review: Built to Spills There is No Enemy

On October 6th, Warner Bros. records will be releasing American rock band Built to Spill’s 8th full-length career album There is No Enemy and rumor has it – it may be their last. In their latest bio introducing the upcoming album, wife of lead man Doug martsch’s writes, “Three and a half years in the making, the efforts of writing and recording There is No Enemy, led Doug to wonder whether this would be the last album he ever makes.”

This may just be temporary fluster, but if you look at the length and breadth of There is no Enemy, it could very well read as an anthology.

Sunset Junction Review Day 2 Sunset Junction 2009 Review: Day 2

Sunset Junction continued for Day 2 on a pleasant Sunday afternoon. It was still hot but my comfort level was much higher than it was during the previous day. The sun was just hot enough and it set just at the right time providing the perfect breeze for acts such as Fool’s Gold, The Sonics, and Built To Spill.

The ticket booth was all ready to go and going through the media guest list was as easy as pie yesterday. My photographer and I walked in just in time to see Love Grenades kick the festival off.

Check it all out in our recap of Day 2! Of course, we have more live photo galleries for you as well!

Additions to 9th Annual Siren Music Festival

sirenmusicfestivalkj09 05 19 Additions to 9th Annual Siren Music Festival

The Siren Music Festival has recently added a few more bands to their lineup: Spank Rock, Future of the Left, Japandroids, and Bear Hands are set to join Built to Spill, The Ravonettes, Frightened Rabbit, Grand Duchy, Monotonix, and Micachu & The Shapes.

If you will be in the area during this time, you might want to check it out. I haven’t heard of a few of these bands, but Japandroids has sparked my interest, simply because I like the name. Spank Rock is pretty fun live, and I’ve heard great things about Built to Spill. If you don’t like the music, you can always ride the roller coaster until you are dizzy. The festival is all day, and it will cost you nothing to get in. That’s right, it is free. I don’t see how you can lose with this one.
