Gun n’ Roses‘ Chinese Democracy album was one of the longest awaited albums that I’d encountered in my life time. For a while, it was running neck and neck withDr. Dre‘s continuously pending, Detox (which still doesn’t have a release date). After Democracy‘s release almost a year ago, the band has finally decided to go on tour with it and guess what? The U.S. isn’t a part of it. Guns n’ Roses will hit the northern territories to visit our friends in Canada instead.
Besides the cool new Nintendo DSi video with Jamie Lidell, other music game tidbits include Guns N’ Roses latest album Chinese Democracy in its entirety on Rock Band as downloadable content on April 14, and the release of Guitar Hero: Smash Hits in June, which will be a “best of” collection of the Guitar Hero series’ most popular songs.
RedOctane, the company that publishes the Guitar Hero franchise, is tackling the Hip Hop genre next with DJ Hero, which they believe will expand the audience for music games. Co-founder Kai Huangsaid that music games are “not a fad”, and that what the company has achieved so far is just “the beginning of a huge category.”

Dr. Pepper promised customers free 20 oz. bottles of the stuff when Guns ‘n Roses released Chinese Democracy. Axl Rose had no direct involvement with the promotion, but is now suing the company for failing to follow through on its promise. Dr. Pepper did give some soda away on November 23, but its website crashed because too many people were trying to get in on the giveaway. The company extended the promo for another day, but Rose claims that the site was still down. Rose’s lawyer has called Dr. Pepper’s actions, “an unmitigated disaster which defrauded customers.”
Los Angeles blogger Kevin Cogill, who was arrested in August after he posted nine leaked tracks from Guns N’ Roses unreleased album Chinese Democracy online, has pled guilty to one count of copyright infringement reports Reuters.
Cogill will enter his guilty plea on December 8 according to the assistant U.S. attorney. Under the original charges when he was arrested, Cogill could have faced more than three years in prison. The attorney declined to release the details of the plea.
Back in March, the folks over at Dr. Pepper issued a challenge to Guns N’ Roses. They said that they would give everyone in America a free Dr. Pepper if the the band’s fabled album Chinese Democracy was released before the end of 2008.
Now that the album is due out exclusively at Best Buy on November 23, Dr. Pepper is making good on the promise. In a statement to Billboard, Dr. Pepper VP of marketing Tony Jacobs said “We never though this day would come…but now that it’s here all we can say is: The Dr Pepper’s on us.”

HELL FREEZES OVER…MORE SO AT LEAST… When it was announced earlier this month that Guns ‘N Roses oft-oft-delayed record “Chinese Democracy” would finally hit stores on November 23rd as a Best Buy exclusive, fan reaction ranged from “Oh my god, glorious day!” to “What’s you talking about, Axl!” to ”Yeah, I’ll believe it when i see it”. As most fans still believe that Axl will yank this record away from stores just days before its release (or buy up every copy as Harvey Korman and Coloris Leachmenonce attempted to do with papers in “High Anxiety“), the band (or Axl and friends) have taken the next logical step to releasing a record and has released the albums title track as their first official single is nine years.
