Well, this should go over well without incident or controversy: recently, during Australia’s Big Day Out Festival, Kanye West’s soundcheck drowned out the Soundgarden performance on a neighboring stage, prompting Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell to call the music “retarded.” Nope, shouldn’t offend anyone at all.
Despite having already released the near-perfect retrospective compilation A-Sides in 1997 that contained a cavalcade of classic hits and deep tracks, the recently-reunited Soundgarden are set lumber towards fans’ collective wallets once again to release another compilation, Telephantasm, on September 28th, according to Billboard.
There’s no better way to start off the new year than with good news from one of your favorite bands. According to Reuters, the popular rock group Soundgarden will reunite in 2010. As one of the major Seattle talents to come out of the grunge era, they’re ready to hit the stage once again according to front man, Chris Cornell.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Chris Cornell talked about his future plans for Soundgarden. He denied that the band would be touring or recording a new album anytime soon, even though he says a reunion is “not impossible.” For the time being, Cornell is much more interested in releasing less-known Soundgarden tracks:
“The only thing that we have talked about is trying to put together an album of B sides and maybe a box set with some unreleased tracks we have. This is something we first talked about 10 years ago. (…) I think the catalog and the legacy of the band has been ignored by the record label and previous management, so we decided to get together, and start working towards putting something like that out.”

Former Soundgarden and Audioslave singer, Chris Cornell released the album Scream on March 10th. It is a drastic change in style for him, featuring less rock characteristics and more pop/electronic elements. But now there is a video for the song, “Scream,” that is acoustic.
Filmed by Meiert Avis, the video is a pretty straight-forward sort of documentation of Cornell performing the song alone. Honestly, I think it’s better then the electronic one, there’s more soul to it.
And then there’s the track, “Part of Me,” that has been remixed several times and with each go it gets worse.

Chris Cornell and Timbaland?! I was just as surprised as you. Although, I probably shouldn’t have been (and neither should you). Cornell has been experimenting with music ever since grunge pioneers Soundgarden broke up and parted ways. He has worked with hard rock supergroup Audioslave with ex-members of Rage Against the Machine and has pursued a solo career. His latest endeavor is the album Scream, produced by rapper/singer Timbaland, which is a radically different direction for the musician.
