It’s getting closer. NYC will soon be taken over by musicians who are eager to showcase their band’s talent and CMJ Music Marathon is always a great catapult for that. Whether artists are playing official or non-official CMJ parties, the Big Apple transforms itself into a Fall version of Austin’s SXSW to keep the momentum going just a few weeks after Fashion week.
We gave you the initial lineup for 2010 but now we have a second round to reveal and boy, it’s a lot! We all remember how many acts were included last year so you shouldn’t be alarmed at the massive addition after the jump. Why? Because without a doubt, there will always be more bands added on. It’s almost that time of year again. CMJ is just around the corner to swallow New York City whole and spit out the greatest up and coming bands to date. Austin may have SXSW in Spring but CMJ dominates every nook and cranny in NYC during the fall when the festival hits the Big Apple on October 19. It can get a bit chaotic with bands who bring their vans and find out there’s no where to park, but that’s all part of the fun when bands and music fiends all gather together and run around to experience some new sounds.
Not only do we know that it will run from October 19 to October 23 but we also already know who they’ve invited to showcase their talents so far. The initial lineup is just after the jump! See if any of your favorite indie bands made the CMJ cut.

It’s finally here! It’s the week of CMJ Festival 2009 in NYC and it all starts tomorrow. The Big Apple will literally be bursting with more noise than usual from October 20 and through October 24. If you’re going to be in the area, make sure you do your last minute registration. You have until 6:00pm tomorrow.
After that, passes will be available onsite at the Judson Memorial Church which is located at 55 Washington Square South, between Thompson and Sullivan Streets.

Speech Debelle had been plucked out of the obscure pool of indie artists when she beat out La Roux, Florence + The Machine, Glasvegas and more for the Mercury Prize.
Now known for her intellectually flowing rhymes, the rapper immediately became a prominent act to book in the UK and overseas. In fact, she was scheduled to play quite a few CMJ shows, including one as an “unannounced” performer for Brooklyn Vegan’s Day Party. After CMJ, she was going to trek across the nation for an LA show, too! However, Speech Debelle aka Corynne Elliot, was forced to cancel all those dates because of recent changes with visa laws.
