Because they are such pillars of artistic integrity and originality, you may remember that Brit-rockers Coldplay originally rejected a request from the television show Glee to have their music used on the singing and dancing program. However, after producers announced that Lady Gaga and Madonna had both opened their respective catalogs to the Fox hit, it seems that the British hitmakers have had a change of heart – Billboard recently reported that Coldplay has opened their entire catalog to Glee.

No Coldplay for you, Glee fans. Word is the band has rejected an offer to have their music used on the singing and dancing TV show. For the record, awesome rocker Bryan Adams also put the kibosh on Glee covering his tunes.
But series creator Ryan Murphy did confirm the show will feature Madonna and Lady Gaga in upcoming episodes. But no Coldplay. Got it?

Before you know it Coldplay will be back – smack dab in the center of the music universe with a new album and all the hype that comes with such an occasion.
The new album should be here sometime in 2010, but for now, fans who are catching the band on their current tour of South America are getting an early taste of what to expect from ‘new’ Coldplay; during the final few dates of the tour the band have been playing new songs, including something called “Don Quixote,” which the band played at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires.

Billboard (via Reuters) recently released their end of the decade issue and after going through numerous music charts based on Neilsen Soundscan, and when it comes to the top rock acts from 2000 – 2010, two main acts stand out in regards to sales: Linkin Park and Nickelback…
We know, we know. Linkin Park is tolerable but Nickelback with their trite songwriting? We want to ask Billboard – Why? Then again, it’s not really Billboard who is choosing these artist. They are merely the messengers. The people buy the music and request DJs to spin these tunes, so it’s really the people who have picked these over-accessible songs as the top artists of the decade. Way back in December 2008 we reported on Joe Satriani’s lawsuit against Coldplay, claiming that their title song “Viva La Vida” was plagiarized from an instrumental he composed in 2004, entitled “If I could Fly.”
Well, looks like the guitar hero versus the British rockers copyright dust-up is kaput; Satriani’s lawsuit alleging copyright infringement has been dismissed. Billboard reported earlier that details of the case remain sealed, but a financial settlement between the two parties may have been reached. Coldplay will not be required to admit to any wrongdoing.

Beastie Boys fans and kind-hearted people – you may relax now. Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys is safe at home resting after undergoing a surgery for his cancerous tumor.
Yauch sent his fans a message via e-mail saying that the surgery was over a week and half ago and in actuality, he only spent one night in the hospital. At home, he to go “have home cooked food and hang out with the family.” It’ll be just a few weeks when he’ll start radiation treatment.

Lately when you see the name Coldplay in a headline you might think someone is accusing the band again for helping themselves to a melody or two. But no, today’s news is something altogether more positive and rather momentous – in a digital music sense.
Coldplay have become the first artists to sell more than one million full digital albums in the US, according to Nielsen SoundScan data. This number adds to the band’s already big total of more than two million complete albums sold worldwide.

That was fast. A little over a month ago Cat Stevens unleashed the hounds of copyright upon Coldplay for allegedly stealing the melody of one of his tunes for their big hit “Viva La Vida.”
But now the singer-songwriter, who goes by the name Yusuf Islam, has forgiven Chris Martin and Coldplay’s musical misbehavior – even though he totally knows they ripped him off.
