coldplay1024 Coldplay And Satriani Settle Copyright Lawsuit

Way back in December 2008 we reported on Joe Satriani’s lawsuit against Coldplay, claiming that their title song “Viva La Vida” was plagiarized from an instrumental he composed in 2004, entitled “If I could Fly.”

Well, looks like the guitar hero versus the British rockers copyright dust-up is kaput; Satriani’s lawsuit alleging copyright infringement has been dismissed. Billboard reported earlier that details of the case remain sealed, but a financial settlement between the two parties may have been reached. Coldplay will not be required to admit to any wrongdoing.

That was fast. A little over a month ago Cat Stevens unleashed the hounds of copyright upon Coldplay for allegedly stealing the melody of one of his tunes for their big hit “Viva La Vida.”

BeatCrave is always ready to get down with new music. Especially when it’s coming from a quartet of artists like we’re featuring today. Upcoming albums from Elvis Costello and Interpol’s Paul Banks, a live CD and download courtesy of Coldplay and a wild remix of Depeche Mode by The Japanese Popstars definitely fits the bill. Let’s take a quick peek at an eclectic batch of new music in the pipeline.

The hit song “Viva La Vida” has become quite the lightning rod for Coldplay.

Yusuf Islam, the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens, has said that he believes the melody of “Viva La Vida” is a direct take-off from his 1973 tune “Foreigner Suite,” which clocks in at 18-minutes.

“There’s been this argument about Coldplay stealing this melody from Joe Satriani, but, if you listen to it, it’s mine! It’s the Foreigner Suite, it is!,” Yusuf told Britain’s Sun Newspaper.

More Artists Make April Fools’ Day Jokes

bjork09 4 2 More Artists Make April Fools Day JokesWe already reported on Trent Reznor’s joke for April Fools’ Day, but other artists have gotten into the act, as well.

Most prominent among them is Coldplay, who posted on their site that they would record their next album in zero gravity aboard a Boeing 727. Brian Eno would help them to record the album on a 1969 analog cassette player, while the band would wear cosmonaut suits. Chris Martin said that the band had “been searching for the right environment to record the perfect snare drum sound for many years now,” and that zero gravity might just be the place.
