Sunset Junction continued to chug along on the streets of Silver Lake, California with all the hustle and bustle. However, the hustle and bustle was not anywhere near as busy as it was during the past few years. A lot of factors could have caused the decline in attendees this year. Perhaps the steep price for a single day entrance had gotten far too expensive for those who used to attend a no-fee Sunset Junction back in the day. Perhaps the headliners weren’t as big of names as people hoped they would be. Perhaps a lot of people attended different and smaller festivals that also had both music, food, beer and bands for no fee at all this weekend. There could have been plenty of other reasons people didn’t attend Sunset Junction this year. Nonetheless, we were there to catch some of our favorite local bands.
Take a look at Sunday’s Sunset Junction through our eyes via photos below!

Last Sunday may have been the end to a painfully hot weekend but things were burning up again at 6th Street Warehouse downtown. Not only were local LA band, Superhumanoids, starting the night off right but beloved Long Beach-based band, Crystal Antlers also came out to support NYC-based Cults for their first LA show ever. The place which consisted of a skating ramp serving as a stage was not out of the ordinary for warehouse shows but what we had to endure was the heat. However, it turned to be a great way to wrap our weekend up even if we were all feeling uncomfortably sticky in the end.

There are so many band names that contain the word, “crystal,” but some of them are the best ones around. Crystal Antlers put on an energetic set with vocals that hit just the spot.

The end of day two of the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona comes to me almost as a surprise – somewhat like being awakened from a hypnotic trance. You can watch our video summary of day two. Here’s my written reconstruction of what happened:
First was Art Brut, an English and German indie punk rock group named after French painter Jean Dubuffet’s definition of outsider art. Lead vocalist Eddie Argos was keen to add more information to the stories told through his lyrics, such as past adventures in the Van Gogh Art Museum, and how he is no longer afraid of sex. In fact, he joked that most of the lyrics were about taking his clothes off. Drummer Mikey Breyer plays standing up, which might seem unconventional, but at least he’s not hidden behind any cymbals. He uses two high-hats, one open the other closed, to make up for his one-footed drumming style.
