Gorillaz To Release Free Album On Christmas Day

Just two days removed from reports that Damon Albarn might retire the Gorillaz gang after the group closes out their world tour this month, now we get word that the comic book band are planning to release a new album on Christmas Day as a free download.
This is the same album Albarn said he recorded on his iPad, “in hotel rooms across America”.
The album will be available Xmas day on the band’s website, via the Gorillaz Advent Calendar, which features Gorillaz ‘stuff’ like sound-check footage and online video games.

The end of Gorillaz? Maybe. Damon Albarn is considering retiring the Gorillaz gang when the band’s current world tour wraps up in New Zealand later this month.
“I couldn’t keep going at this size and pace,” Albarn explains to The Age newspaper.
Albarn is planning a “period of reflection and sobriety” to consider the cartoon band’s future.

A new Gorillaz album may be released before Christmas, according to Damon Albarn, who says he recorded the album on his iPad, “in hotel rooms across America”.
Albarn said in an interview with NME that he hoped the Gorillaz record would be the first made on an iPad. “I fell in love with my iPad as soon as I got it, so I’ve made a completely different kind of record,” he said.

While “Glee” fever continues to spread across the country, one place the rabid fandom hasn’t reached appears to be the Plastic Beach. Gorillaz‘ spokesperson and songwriter, Damon Albarn, told the Associated Press that he wouldn’t let the popular show cover his band’s material, calling their work “a very poor substitute for the real thing.”

Last week we shared the news of Gorillaz‘s “Escape To Plastic Beach” World Tour which includes a ton of North American dates. However, the when and where details were only recently revealed. As previously mentioned, they’ll be kicking it off on October 3rd in Montreal at the Bell Centre and making sure to stop by the major venues such as New York’s Madison Square Garden on October 8th and Los Angeles’ Gibson Amphitheatre on October 27th.
The Gorillaz frontman also shared his thoughts on how much better their headlining experience at Glastonbury could have gone and give some hope to hard core Blur fans. More details are after the jump!

Lifelong revilers of all things Gallagher brothers, rejoice – NME reports that current Gorillaz frontman/ maybe-still Blur frontman Damon Albarn has stated that, given the success of Blur’s reunion 7” single, “Fool’s Day” (recorded as a limited edition track for Record Store Day), he’d like to leave the door open for more new Blur tracks to be recorded and released in the future. One thing, though—don’t expect an album length reunion, or a slew of tracks to be released anytime soon.
