Cruising through a sea of concert-goers and a fog of pot smoke (don’t act surprised), The Black Keys were on target turning out a sun drenched crowd. Playing to all types, they employed a stable of women signing the music to the hearing impaired, proving that feeling the music is just as important as hearing it. If only all bands could be that considerate. Here’s what happened…

By most accounts Keep it Hid, Dan Auerbach’s first solo outing away from his Black Keys cohort Patrick Carney, has been one of the better album releases of 2009 so far. And now it looks like Auerbach is ready to take the new songs on the road for a spin with today’s news of a solo tour, which gets underway in November.
And if you’re worried about what Auerbach’s bandmate is going to do while the lead vocalist is out doing the solo thing – do not fret: Carney recently leaked details of his very own album and tour for his side-project known as Drummer.

Air travel was a nightmare (Dallas- Fort Worth’s airport was an anxiety-ridden scene of stranded South by Southwesters), and traffic on the freeway slowed me down even further, but once I finally joined the mob on Red River Street for Day 1 (March 18th), the feeling of joy was immeasurable…
After grabbing my wristband from the Austin Convention Center, I followed the sweet sounds of power-pop to one of Austin’s trendiest clubs, Beauty Bar. Since it was only a tad before 10 p.m., the line moved quickly, and soon I was soaking up the New Wave-infused glory of Fol Chen (above), who delivered their brand of (usually) production-heavy pop-rock with an erratic punk-rock twist.

Dan Auerbach, guitarist and singer of the duo The Black Keys, will release his first solo album titled Keep It Hid on February 10 via Nonesuch Records.
Instead of his usual cohort Patrick Carney on drums, Auerbach tackled the kit himself. The album also features Auerbach’s uncle James Quine on guitar on the track “Street Walkin’” and fellow Ohio singer-songwriter Jessica Lea Mayfield singing on “When the Night Comes.”
