Death Cab For Cutie Does First Single For New Moon Soundtrack New Moon Soundtracks Complete Track Listing Announced!

The New Moon soundtrack has been announced, and it couldn’t be any more different from the first one! We knew it was going to have an indie sound, but this is just ridiculous! Ridiculous in a good way, anyway.

We had known about Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, Band of Skulls, and Death Cab For Cutie but who knew the Bon Iver track was going to be a duet with St. Vincent! Others that were recently suspected and now confirmed are The Killers, Grizzly Bear, and Stephanie Meyer’s muse, Muse.

Although one part of us is surprised that indie darlings, Anya Marina and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, are also in the mix, another part says this makes sense. A few of these artists are somehow associated with Alexandra Patsavas’ label, Chop Shop, or her close friends, Nettwerk Music Group. Check out the full track list below and tell us what you think!

Death Cab for Cutie also scored big time as their song, “Meet Me on the Equinox” was chosen as the soundtrack’s leading single. However, famous music supervisor, Alexandra Patsavas (known for placing the music for Grey’s Anatomy, Gossip Girl and the first Twilight film), has told the New York Times, that the track listing is not complete yet.

MTV VMA Breakthrough Video Nominees

Wednesday, August 5, 2009 9:26PM - By

MTV VMA Breakthrough Video NomineesThe MTV Video Music Awards released their nominees for Best Breakthrough Video earlier this week. Just like we were impressed with MTV’s Top Albums of 2009 list, we are amazed at how much depth this nominee list has.

The Breakthrough Video category have been absent from the awards show on and off for the past few years, but we’re excited to see it’s back. We’re especially elated that many of the video nominees feature a handful of indie artists! Artist videos include Bat for Lashes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Matt and Kim, Death Cab for Cutie and more. Now we know that the video filmmakers/directors get to take this award home, but we can’t help but think it’s rad that they’ve worked with some of our favorite artists.

Take a look after the jump and watch all the videos that made the list!

Death Cab for Cutie New Video Grapevine Fires

“Grapevine Fires” was initially inspired by Death Cab for Cutie‘s Ben Gibbard’s up-close-and-personal encounter with 2007′s California wildfires. The song – which was recently included on “CHANGE IS NOW: RESTORING AMERICA’S PROMISE,” the official commemorative CD-DVD set celebrating President Barack Obama’s historic inauguration – motivated Director Walter Robot to create an animated short film which brilliantly relays the sense of devastating tragedy and forced optimism caused by the fire’s wrath.

“I have been an admirer of the beautiful art of Walter Robot from afar for a while,” says Death Cab bassist Nick Harmer. “Working with them on this video is an amazing dream come true and I am in awe of the stunning video they have made for us.”

“We’re huge Death Cab fans,” says Walter Robot. “We had also heard from other directors how great all the Death Cab guys are and how really open they are to the creative process, which they were. They were extremely supportive and sincere.”

Enough with the praise! Check out the video below…

Death Cab For Cutie Vs. Auto-Tune

As Death Cab for Cutie strutted their musical genius down the red carpet the baby blue ribbons attached to their lapels caused a quiet murmur among fans and Grammy talent alike. Turns out the ribbons were not in support of curing any disease or ending a war. Instead, the boys of Death Cab informed those curious about the baby-blue that they and the ribbons were there for a different kind of disease.

“We’re here to raise awareness about Auto-Tuner abuse” stated Death Cab front man Ben Gibbard “I think over the last 10 years, we’ve seen a lot of good musicians being affected by this newfound digital manipulation of the human voice, and we feel enough is enough.”

“Let’s raise awareness,” he continued. “Let’s stop this, let’s bring back the blue note, and let’s really try to get music back to its roots of [having] actual people singing and sounding like human beings.”

death cab for cutie Round Up: Warp Webshop Closes, Warner Musics YouTube Demands, New FCC Chairman

The Warp Records online store has closed, Warner Music forces its own artist’s videos offline and Obama is ready to nominate a new FCC Chairman, all in today’s round up!

  • WarpMart, the Warp Records webshop, is finished. Users have been notified that all purchases, digital and physical, will now be made through a new version of the Bleep.com website. The site is still in its beta version, however, the change is helpful, as there will now be a single source for the music of Warp Records and related labels. [Electronic Music World]
  • Death Cab For Cutie’s official hompage videos, embedded from Youtube, have been taken offline with the message “This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by WMG”. The incredible thing is that Warner Music is the band’s own label. This ironic turn symbolizes perfectly the conflict between the major labels’ protectionism and the free-sharing culture. [Mashable]
