Holy mother of God, the Deftones made the top of the Billboard charts — again. Ever since the launch of their second studio album Around the Fur in 1997, the group have remained consistent in topping the music charts, and this year is no different. Early last week, they released their sixth studio album Diamond Eyes, which debuted at number 6 on the Top 200 selling over 62,000 albums during its first week. Who said albums don’t sell?

Good news for hard-rock-that-doesn’t-suck fans—Deftones have returned with their first album in four years, as well as their first release since bassist Chi Cheng’s 2009 car accident that left the musician in a coma. Diamond Eyes will be released on May 4, with former Quicksand bassist Sergio Vega taking over for Cheng.
Hardcore fans can preorder the upcoming disc now at the Deftones’ website, and in doing so nab a free exclusive M83 remix of the track “Rocket Skates.” Further, in support of Record Store Day, on April 17th, the band will be releasing a “very limited” 7” vinyl copy of “Rocket Skates.

American rock band Deftones, led by lead singer Chino Moreno are happy to announce that fans can listen to the first single off their long awaited album Diamond Eyes for free. The single off of their sixth studio release is called “Rocket Skates,” and it’s filled with heavy guitars, courtesy of band member Stephen Carpenter and Moreno’s powerful vocals. The lyrics are dark, as is the mood of the song and as usual the guitar riffs are amazing.

On November 3rd of this year, Deftones bassist, Chi Cheng, was involved in a serious car accident. The accident led to his placement in the intensive care unit. Now after a month of being in comatose, Cheng has been moved to the long-term care unit where they have a specialization in brain injuries.
Doctors remain hopeful but the band solemnly shared this statement on their MySpace:
