Devendra Banhart has some cosmic fun with guest stars Wu-Tang’s GZA, the Strokes’ Fabrizio Moretti and MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden in his new video for “Baby,” which appears on his 2009 release What Will We Be. Banhart even tidied up his facial hair for the video! Looking good, Devendra!
Directed by Ron Winter, the “Baby” video is a pretty kooky affair – but in a good way. And very entertaining! The song is also Banhart’s most pop-ish, which adds to the fun vibe going on throughout the video. Yes, things get, how shall we say… unusual… around the 1:20 mark, but it’s totally worth checking out.

As if we couldn’t get enough Phoenix as it is, we are now excited to share some great news about them!
After Animal Collective did a wicked cover of their song, “Love Like A Sunset,” Phoenix is really getting into the idea with an entire album! That’s right. There will be an entire collection of songs in the same vein of the Animal Collective cover, and the album to be covered is none other than their latest album, (the one probably still in your 25 most played songs on iTunes), Wolfgang Amedeus Phoenix!

The ever-interesting folk-hippy Devendra Banhart will release his next album, What Will We Be, this October; the new collection of songs is the singer-songwriter’s seventh, but first release with Warner Bros., who lured him away from indie label XL Recordings.
What Will We Be is the follow-up to 2007′s Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon. The fourteen-track album was co-produced by Banhart and Band Of Bees’ Paul Butler.

If you don’t know who this gorgeous guy is, then it’s a damn shame. (He’s so gorgeous that when he doesn’t have a beard, he is mistaken for a woman.) Venezuelan-American folk-rock singer-songwriter and musician, Devendra Banhart is in an entire different world and it’s a wonderful trippy one at that if you decide to join in. Although he is mostly categorized as psychedelic folk, his music has been dubbed as freak folk, New Weird America, and Natrualismo because his lyrics are often naturalistic and surreal.
Banhart is known for his eclectic songwriting (sometimes in English, sometimes not) but he is also definitely known for his silliness when he wears underwear on top of his head for a majority of a performance, cross-dresses, or gets his girlfriend (now ex-girlfriend Natalie Portman) to star in Bollywood themed music videos of his. It’s also entertaining to know he and his band go by numerous different names such as Fried Hummingbird, Vagina Burglars, Hairy Fairy Band, Las Putas Locas, Stoner Boner, Spiritual Boner, Bummer Hummer, Brain Taint, Love Fart and Bathhouse Of The Winds, among others.
Check out Devendra Banhart in our BeatCrave Fav series today! Watch his videos that make you feel as if you are hallucinating, then vote for him on Friday!
