ECC Concert Picks: Eastern Conference Champions, Nerve, Laura Marling...

It’s nearly the weekend; can you feel it? Characterized by an overwhelming urge to get out and play, we could nearly hear it a mile away. It’s time to put away the earbuds and invest in the live venue format with some bands that love the life out of performing. A lot of the acts we’ve chosen can speak for themselves, but if you need quality and variety, you’ve got it – fusion rock, experimental rock, electronic instrumental, and folk are just a few of the styles we’ve got – check out our picks for the weekend below.

Variety is the spice of life, especially when it comes to music. Whether it’s the style of Top 40 that gets you going or something more pinpointed yet broad, such as experimental folk rock/bluegrass, there’s something about taking something and making it yours. And trust us, many artists are getting the memo, our picks for the weekend being no exception. Check them out below:

Voxhaul Broadcast CP 11 3 2010d Voxhaul Broadcast, Eastern Conference Champions: Concert Review and Photos

To save us from a middle of the week slump, Spaceland ‘s line up with Voxhaul Broadcast and Eastern Conference Champions threw us over the steep hump for a solid landing on Wednesday night. With two Los Angeles bands whose fans span across the nation, this was a night to take in some of the best original rock music we are lucky enough to have with us in the local scene. There were those who swayed. There were those who rocked. Then there were those who just danced up a storm without a care in the world except for the talent that was hurled at them from the stage.

Sunset Junction 2010 Photo Gallery: Saturday

The annual Sunset Junction is in full swing this weekend and we were there to capture all the music during its first day on Saturday. As usual, the sun out in full effect making us who don’t handle the heat too well be a bit more cautious about beverage intake (that’s not water) during the day. However, that was a bit hard to do when they added a VIP section near the Bates stage.

Things seemed to run a bit smoother both behind the scenes (in regards to checking in) and the fair even added another stage that was locals only. Sponsored by The Fold, the new stage at Edgecliff was one we frequented the most since we’re absurdly in love with our local music scene. Experience Sunset Junction on Saturday through our eyes via our photos below!

We called it – the hot, humid days of summer are finally here, and naturally we’re looking for anything to distract us from the notion (and reality) of 24/7 sweat and hiked-up energy bills. Yes, as the heat ramps up into the triple digits across the country, we’re hard at work looking for local shows that will not only boast debatably awesome talent, but whose ticket prices will remain at double digits or less (even better). We aim to quench your thirst. Check out our picks below:

Twilight Webcast To Feature Performances By Metric and Cee-Lo Tonight

Twilight Webcast Featuring Performances By Metric and Cee Lo Twilight Webcast To Feature Performances By Metric and Cee Lo Tonight

If you like the Metric, Cee-Lo or Eastern Conference Champions, you’re in luck tonight. If you’re also a Twlight fan, you’re really lucky tonight. In support of the upcoming third installment of the Twilight saga, Eclipse, there will be a webcast streaming performances from the previously mentioned artists. You have to admit that Twilight continues to shed its ridiculous teen-crazy reputation bit by bit (very small bits) by putting out some decent soundtracks. We know we enjoy the soundtracks much more than we could enjoy the movies now that the music has veered toward the indie music scene.

The Twilight Saga Eclipse Soundtrack Features Metric Bat For Lashes Vampire Weekend And More The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Soundtrack Features Metric, Bat For Lashes, Vampire Weekend And More

Late last night we shared the news with you in regards to the upcoming soundtrack for Eclipse, the third installment of the Twilight series. Although a couple of movie stars may be holding production back by demanding a pay raise, Alexandra Patsavas and her people at Chop Shop Records and Atlantic Records are ready to share the music with you. Exciting, right? Even if you’re not a Twilight fan, you have to admit the last soundtrack was pretty rad with their choice to go for a “softer” indie touch.

The con to this soundtrack track list? We’re going to have to wait all day to have the final list of songs and artists much like we had to wait all day for the Bonnaroo lineup…  The track list will reveal itself here but we’ve got the first batch of artists who are on the Eclipse soundtrack below! We’ll be updating it here on the site until we have them all! Check it out so far after the jump!

Good rhythm isn’t all that’s needed to make a good show, but it certainly doesn’t hurt any. We’d like to think that good rhythm would be a given with any modern band, much less one inspired by more-than-decent influences, but unfortunately that’s not always the case. Our picks for the weekend, appear to have everything squared away in that department and then some. Check them out…
