New Jersey’s indie rock band, Steel Train, has been around over a decade now and they’ve still got it even if they’re only releasing their third (self-titled) studio album this year. We were lucky enough to catch a set of theirs a while back and are highly anticipating the arrival of the fresh new album in our hands on June 29.

However, lead singer and songwriter of Steel Train, Jack Antonoff, has shared with us that he had always heard the new album with a female vocalist. Of course, the new album will feature the guys on vocals but they had another trick up their sleeve to make that idea happen. They’ve not only gotten one female singer to cover a track off the new album but they’ve successfully acquired more than ten very well-known ladies to make this become a reality!

Elizabeth and the Catapult returns with another charming video which offers reminiscent shouts of childhood. Playfulness seems to be a motif that works for this trio. Previously featured in our Know Your NYC Bands and BeatCrave Fav series, this band has their own pop jazz style that anyone with a musical ear can latch on to.

Their debut album, Taller Children, is out via Verve Forecast and they are currently touring with Justin Nozuka. Check out their latest video for the track, “Race You,” below!

EATCWinnieJaing9 Elizabeth and the Catapult: Concert Review and Photos

This is not the first time Elizabeth and the Catapult has graced the pages of BeatCrave. Ever since we featured them in our Know Your NYC Bands series, we just couldn’t get enough of the trio. We even inducted them in to our BeatCrave Fav series!

So when BeatCrave kindly got invited to their last show on their 5-week tour, we were more than happy to accept!

The show was hosted by Rolling Stone Magazine and took place on the rooftop of the Andaz Hotel in West Hollywood. Before E and the C went on, the room already had a pleasant atmosphere with an open bar, free meals (spaghetti, sushi, ceviche, and more), and a lovely view of the city. There honestly wasn’t a better way to unwind after work on a Thursday night.

Elizabeth and the Catapult: BeatCrave Fav

Elizabeth++The+Catapult Elizabeth and the Catapult: BeatCrave Fav

There is something about female singer-songwriters that attracts me so much; they’re addicting, like chocolate. This week it’s the Brooklyn-based band Elizabeth & the Catapult, lead by the classical-driven Elizabeth Ziman, who wrote her first song at the age of six. Inspired by childhood memories, Elizabeth and her two band mates, Pete Lalish and Dan Molad, arrange music that only true romantics are able to deliver– a sound so pure it is as professional as it is soulful.

Their debut album Taller Children (a name inspired by the financial downfall of the last year) is filled with jazzy sounds, acoustic guitars, and breezy melodies topped with Elizabeth’s unique and flexible vocals that remind you of a 50′s Broadway musical; something that only great singer-songwriters can achieve. The only way to describe Elizabeth is to say she’s like the entire box of delicious chocolates because along with “the Catapult,” she manages to cover a variety of genres, fulfilling music lovers, from rock lovers to cabaret dancers.

Last month, Elizabeth & the Catapult joined our Know Your NYC Bands series, and now we’re happy to add them as one of our BeatCrave Favorites. Check them out in our Beatcrave Fav series below!

Elizabeth and The Catapult Interview: Know Your NYC Bands

KYLB lizandcatapult09 6 18 Elizabeth and The Catapult Interview: Know Your NYC Bands

BeatCrave is happy to bring you band, Elizabeth & The Catapult, as part of our Know Your NYC Bands series. There couldn’t be a better band to make your Friday a little brighter. E & the C have been gaining buzz from local blogs here and there for years but recently, the big kids at NPR and Billboard have also taken notice of the newly signed trio (to Verve Forecast) for their bouncy tunes. Their vibe is sure to please the fans of the playful Feist, the jazz-influenced The Bird and the Bee, and the great storytellers Rilo Kiley in addition to pulling in new crowds.

Leading lady, Elizabeth, has put her knowledge of classical music and indie pop to good use with her band mates (and former Berklee colleagues) on their deliciously sunny album, Taller Children. Although the record is the epitome of breezy charm that echoes happy childhood memories, songs like “Rainiest Day of Summer” and “Apathy” are also melancholic morsels that melt in your mouth leaving you with an aftertaste of contemplation.

It is our pleasure to present an exclusive interview with the trio’s own Elizabeth Ziman along with their brand spanking new video for their title track, “Taller Children,” below!
