Well, Angelinos/ Elliott Smith fans have cause to miss ex-Pink Floyd member Roger Waters’ upcoming The Wall tour, as Pitchfork reports that the man’s marketing team—who have been slathering various walls in New York and Los Angeles with “projections, wheat pastings, and chalk drawings” of Eisenhower-era anti-war quotations—recently slapped a few over the famous Figure 8 Elliott Smith memorial wall on Sunset Boulevard. The wall isn’t exactly pristine sure, covered as it is with graffiti, but it still smacks of tacky disrespect on the part of Waters’ ad wizards.

We knew Rock Band was putting indie artists in the game, but it looks like Guitar Hero 5, specifically, has also decided to be nice to the genre.
Although there was much speculation of having a somewhat indie-friendly set list for Guitar Hero 5, the long awaited game turned out to be more than generous by adding Vampire Weekend (“A-Punk”) – maybe this will actually pump people up for the new album - Elliott Smith (“LA”), TV on the Radio (“Wolf Like Me”), and more. Now some of these songs don’t really blow one away with the guitar riffs, but it’s good to know that not all our options have to be mainstream, stadium-rock heavy metal all the time.

Oakland, CA band Audrye Sessions have recorded a version of the late Elliott Smith’s “Waltz #2 (XO).” Amazingly, the band managed to make one of Smith’s songs more somber than the original. Their sparsely recorded version features only reverb soaked electric guitar and vocals.
Audrye Sessions just released their debut EP in October, simply titled EP. Their self-titled debut full-length is will be out February 17 via Black Seal Records.
