Whatever you think about Pink Floyd, you’ve got to give the classic prog-rock explorers credit for sticking to their guns, as far as artistic integrity goes—the surviving members of the band have emerged victorious in a High Court appeal case from EMI, in which the label wanted to be able to distribute the band’s songs on an individual basis, rather than the album-only basis that Floyd insists upon.

Yoko Ono has already begun a lavish celebration in honor of her late husband and former Beatles member, John Lennon. However, she and EMI will continue to celebrate his 70th birthday and this time around they plan on inviting fans from all over the world to join. Lennon’s widow and EMI Music have prepared a special 24 hours exclusively on YouTube which will feature tons of tributes from famous friends and such as Ringo Starr, Brian Wilson, Aerosmith, The Jonas Brothers, Jeff Bridges, Tony Hawk, Bret Michaels, DMC (of RUN DMC), Brandon Boyd (of Incubus), Brian Walton and plenty more. To celebrate what would have been John Lennon’s 70th birthday, EMI has announced that the ex-Beatle’s solo catalog will be reissued as digitally remastered editions from his original mixes; the wave of new releases includes eight solo titles, a best-of compilation, a four-CD box set and an 11-CD collectors set.
Yoko Ono and a team of engineers have been working on the project in New York and London’s Abbey Road Studios.
The John Lennon “Gimme Some Truth” campaign gets underway October 5th with the release of eight remastered studio albums.

Well, the hits just keep on coming for EMI—after losing Radiohead and the Rolling Stones in 2007 following a buyout and restructuring plan by Terra Firma Capital Partners, the label made a last-ditch bid earlier this year to raise money to pay off their sizable loans to U.S. Citibank by licensing its back catalog of music to the North American market. This would have included tunes by artists as varied as The Beatles, Lily Allen, Coldplay, Queen and Pink Floyd, which could have potentially earned $600 million in total over the course of a five-year licensing deal.

In an attempt to reverse their financial turmoil, EMI is toying with the idea of licensing its music to the North American market, hoping to raise close to $600 million for the music company, owned by Guy Hands’ company Terra Firma.
EMI is reportedly presenting a five-year licensing deal of its music catalog to Warner Music, Universal Music Group and Sony Music.

With the EMI slowly but surely crumbling in the midst of other major record labels falling part, viral band OK Go, has decided to part ways with them and start their own label, Parachute. Another band who has a major tiff with EMI, OK Go are now happy to announce that they are free to make their own decisions in regards to promotional and distributional funds.
Although they may have just gotten their third viral hit with their latest music video, “This Too Shall Pass,” the band also has plans to start a fresh and bigger campaign for their album, Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky.

In a move that will certainly halt any wicked karma headed its way, financially hurting music company EMI has reversed course and decided not to sell Abbey Road studios. Instead, EMI will seek out investors to help save the London recording studio made famous by The Beatles.
Last week word spread that iconic Abbey Road studios had been put on the chopping block by the British record company, which apparently had already received an offer for Abbey Road “in excess of £30 million” in mid-2009.

The Beatles disbanded long ago and Paul McCartney has had an incredible solo career so far with Ringo Starr attempting to follow close behind. However, the end of the Beatles era may truly be turning into a reality very soon. The famous recording studio on Abbey Road is up for sale because of EMI‘s severe financial problems.
Yes, we’re talking about the famous studio in London where the Beatles recorded their last album. Yes, we’re talking about the album that made that zebra striped crosswalk famous. Most importantly, when we’re talking about Abbey Road we’re almost always talking about the Beatles! However, EMI has gotten themselves into such a rut that they may be selling the pop culture landmark to a buyer who will turn it into an apartment complex. Excuse us, flats.

Just in time for Tuesday’s big launch of Vevo, EMI has joined up with Universal Music and Sony Music as a partner with the new online music video service.
With EMI on board, that leaves Warner Music as the lone holdout among the ‘big four’ record companies not part of the Vevo project; hundreds of independent labels are also involved with the music video website. As part of the EMI deal, Vevo can offer video content from artists like Norah Jones, Coldplay and Katy Perry on EMI’s labels, which includes Astralwerks, Blue Note, Capitol and Virgin.
