This week, Thom Yorke‘s side project Atoms For Peace released a new and complicated single titled “Default.” The band also announced the tentative release date for their debut album. Also, the MTV VMAs took place last night and racy pop star Rihanna came out the big winner. Elsewhere, The Black Keys have announced that they’re back in the studio, prepping for an eight album. We might not have to wait much longer for a follow-up to El Camino. All that and more below.

Good news for fans of all things Radiohead: in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke announced that two albums are coming down the pipe—a new disc from Yorke’s side project, Atoms for Peace, as well as a new Radiohead album, despite the fact that the band just released The King Limbs earlier this year.

As if being one of rock’s most famous icons for the current generation and putting out a brand new single solo-style weren’t enough, Thom Yorke has decided to form a new band.
We suspected this but we didn’t expect the band to be another super-group! It looks like the best of the best are all teaming up together to make a substantial impact on music lovers. (Well, some of them.)
Last night, Yorke announced that the band includes Flea (Red Hot Chilli Peppers), Nigel Godrich (producer), Joey Waronker (Beck’s drummer), and Mauro Refosco. Along with that announcement on Dead Air Space, a statement was sent out emphasizing the fact that “Radiohead is not breaking up,” but that Yorke and his new super-group band will be playing the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles on October 4 and 5. Check his message out along with a link to the tickets!

If you’re a frequent internet music news surfer, you probably run into a lot of rumors, most of them based on one person’s hopefulness or assumptions. And you know what they say about assumptions…
Now you don’t want to to be an ass, and neither do we, so several times a week, Beatcrave will give you a quick list of recent rumors that have been denied or confirmed. Here’s the latest gab going around:
- A British journal claimed today that David Bowie was in talks with organizers for the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival with regards to revival show of the rock legend’s Ziggy Stardust persona. However, NME contacted a Bowie spokesperson this morning and was told that the singer has no plans to play the festival this year. Too bad, but it has been confirmed that Coachella did bid for Bowie last year, so a non-Ziggy-Stardust performance might still be possible.
- In other Coachella news, Faith No More frontman Mike Patton shot down rumors today that the band will reform for this year’s desert bash in April. However, Patton did reveal that he would perform at the festival alongside beatboxer/rapper Rahzel in support of an upcoming collaboration album between the two artists. The album’s release date has yet to be confirmed, but we’re likely to get lengthy preview at Coachella this year. Heck, maybe they’ll even surprise us with some Faith No More remix cuts.
