Now that he needs something to do following the “this is totally not a break up, I swear” hiatus of his day job, the Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl is doing the honorable thing and reuniting to drum for Queens of the Stone Age on their upcoming album (and subsequent tour, we hope).

This week, Dave Grohl confirmed the rumors about the Foo Fighters‘ split. The band is going on hiatus for an unspecified amount of time. Why, you ask? Well, Cage the Elephant’s drummer, Jared Champion, was recently hospitalized due to a ruptured appendix. So, Grohl said he would step in and drum for the band in Champion’s absence.

The Sasquatch Festival is already upon us and Beatcrave is here in Washington celebrating the 10th year birthday of our favorite hairy creature. The party is so big they had to add an extra half day to get the party started a little early. While the day might have been light on the acts, it was not light on the rock. Sure with Bob Mold and Death From Above 1979 you already have some pretty heavy hitters, but none hit harder than Friday night’s closers The Foo Fighters.

Nirvana’s tenure as an active rock band ended tragically when frontman Kurt Cobain took his own life. It would have been blasphemy to trudge on with a new band leader, and anyway, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl always had far too much love and respect for their fallen friend to ever try to replace him.
Novoselic more or less exited the music scene, but Grohl went on to have a successful career of his own with the Foo Fighters, a band which he formed in part as a way to deal with the grief caused by Cobain’s death.
