The Foo Fighters hiatus may be over before Taylor Swift starts dating Michael J. Fox’s son. Dave Grohl, who’s currently at Sundance promoting his documentary Sound City, told a major music site that the Foo Fighters ‘have really awesome, big plans’ for the next record.

Now that he needs something to do following the “this is totally not a break up, I swear” hiatus of his day job, the Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl is doing the honorable thing and reuniting to drum for Queens of the Stone Age on their upcoming album (and subsequent tour, we hope).

This week, Dave Grohl confirmed the rumors about the Foo Fighters‘ split. The band is going on hiatus for an unspecified amount of time. The rumors first started when Grohl mentioned, while playing onstage at the Global Citizen Festival, that he didn’t know when they would be playing live again. Also, R.E.M.‘s former guitarist Peter Buck released his first solo album today. And Adele‘s Skyfall theme song hit the web. You can listen to the tune below.

You’ve got to give Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters this—they may be a little goofy, or too middle of the road sometimes, but they’ve got a lot of heart. It’s something that was on full display Wednesday night, when the band played the longest set of their career for an audience at a Rock the Vote concert.

It’s that time of year again, when the meaningless award system known as “The Grammys” begins to dole out awards to people like Katy Perry and the Foo Fighters. The awards show won’t air until February 12, 2012, but the nominations were announced last night, during a concert which featured two performances by Lady Gaga (go ahead and sigh loudly right here).

Officially cementing his title as Seriously, the Coolest Musician in America, Right? I Mean Seriously!, Dave Grohl has temporarily become the drummer of Kentucky up and comers Cage the Elephant. Why, you ask? Well, Cage the Elephant’s drummer, Jared Champion, was recently hospitalized due to a ruptured appendix. So, Grohl said he would step in and drum for the band in Champion’s absence.

The Sasquatch Festival is already upon us and Beatcrave is here in Washington celebrating the 10th year birthday of our favorite hairy creature. The party is so big they had to add an extra half day to get the party started a little early. While the day might have been light on the acts, it was not light on the rock. Sure with Bob Mold and Death From Above 1979 you already have some pretty heavy hitters, but none hit harder than Friday night’s closers The Foo Fighters.

Nirvana’s tenure as an active rock band ended tragically when frontman Kurt Cobain took his own life. It would have been blasphemy to trudge on with a new band leader, and anyway, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl always had far too much love and respect for their fallen friend to ever try to replace him.
Novoselic more or less exited the music scene, but Grohl went on to have a successful career of his own with the Foo Fighters, a band which he formed in part as a way to deal with the grief caused by Cobain’s death.
