It’s that time of year again, when the meaningless award system known as “The Grammys” begins to dole out awards to people  like Katy Perry and the Foo Fighters.   The awards show won’t air until February 12, 2012, but the nominations were announced last night, during a concert which featured two performances by Lady Gaga (go ahead and sigh loudly right here).

Officially cementing his title as Seriously, the Coolest Musician in America, Right?  I Mean Seriously!, Dave Grohl has temporarily become the drummer of Kentucky up and comers Cage the Elephant.  Why, you ask?  Well, Cage the Elephant’s drummer, Jared Champion, was recently hospitalized due to a ruptured appendix.  So, Grohl said he would step in and drum for the band in Champion’s absence.

The Sasquatch Festival is already upon us and Beatcrave is here in Washington celebrating the 10th year birthday of our favorite hairy creature. The party is so big they had to add an extra half day to get the party started a little early. While the day might have been light on the acts, it was not light on the rock. Sure with Bob Mold and Death From Above 1979 you already have some pretty heavy hitters, but none hit harder than Friday night’s closers The Foo Fighters.

Nirvana’s tenure as an active rock band ended tragically when frontman Kurt Cobain took his own life. It would have been blasphemy to trudge on with a new band leader, and anyway, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl always had far too much love and respect for their fallen friend to ever try to replace him.

Novoselic more or less exited the music scene, but Grohl went on to have a successful career of his own with the Foo Fighters, a band which he formed in part as a way to deal with the grief caused by Cobain’s death.

The Foo Fighters have something pretty darn cool in the works: releasing a covers album to celebrate Record Store Day 2011 next month. The album, known as Medium Rare, will be released on vinyl in participating stores on April 16. Medium Rare will arrive hot on the heels of the Foo Fighters’ new album, Wasting Light, set to hit stores April 12.

Among the covers are versions of Pink Floyd’s “Have A Cigar” and Prince’s “Darling Nikki;” the 13 songs on the album have all been performed live by the band previously. Check below for the full song list for Medium Rare.
