The Beach Boys are heading to the Grammy Awards. On Sunday, Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks will reunite onstage for the first time in 20 years. But the Boys won’t be performing alone – Maroon 5 and indie band, Foster the People, will join them on the Grammy stage.

The four days that were The Sasquatch 2011 Music Festival was a magical one for us here at Beatcrave and Memorial Day Monday was the most packed day of music we had all weekend. It seemed that every band that played was worthy of taking up every minute we had.
We also got to see Beatcrave Fav, Foster the People, play the most jammed packed set of the weekend over at The Yeti stage as well as catching Guided By Voices playing to what might have been the smallest crowd at the main stage. We also avoided the sporadic showers that turned the blue sky grey and caught some more acoustic sets, this time by three of the four members of The Decemberists.

It’s hard to distinguish what is a “good” album and what is a “bad” album these days. Most of the time readers of these sorts of articles disagree with what is judged as “bad” and have some pointed opinions… and for good reason: there isn’t a standard for what is good and what is not. Critics and reviewers who base their professional life on judging the newest album releases could easily be following popular opinion, not forming their own. This week we’ve been graced with Lady Gaga’s 3rd full length and a double feature from Boris.I realized these albums belong in a sub-category of their own. Now, I will introduce this week’s bad, bad/good, good, and great album of the week.

Another year – another season, mind – another music festival. When it gets old, you’ll be the first to know.
It’s hard to believe that the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival is only three years young, but maybe that’s why it’s looking so good. The official lineup was announced today and things are ready and rearing to go this August 12-14. Stadium heavyweights Muse and Phish leading the pack with two sets, and such movers-and-shakers from Arcade Fire, MGMT, The Black Keys, The Decemberists and Erykah Badu, to our favorites Foster the People and oft-on-our-radar Grouplove and The Vaccines, will take on the various stages at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, CA.

With their start back in October 2009, Los Angeles-based band Foster the People is definitely considered to be relatively new in the music circuit. However, instead of viewing their newbie-ness as an obstacle, it’s likely they’ve viewed it as a worthy challenge. We can only assume the band has plenty of plans in store. How do we know? We don’t, but here’s our guess according to the voyeur-machine that is Twitter: having played their last show of 2010 a few days back and already working on their first ever music video, it is only logical that they’re dreaming up a project – or at least applying their energies in that direction – to satisfy our curiosities about them.
Hopefully, to rock our socks off. We wear special socks for such occasions. Their sound is clean and fresh, pop and fizz without the sugary sweet. It’s the cater-to-you style without abandoning their sound that has roped us in – that and their inherent knack at keeping it less about them and more about the music. Foster the People, will we ever really know you? Check out them in our BeatCrave Fav series below and don’t forget to vote for them at the end of this month!
