Glasvegas singer, James Allan, was still missing before the winner of the Mercury Music Prize was announced on Tuesday night. However, after much concern from his band mates and colleagues, Allan is reported to be safe in New York.
People who were worried about his five-day appearance included his cousin and Glasvegas guitarist, Rab Allan, who stated that no one had seen him since their show in Italy. Bassist, Paul Donoghue, also expressed his uneasiness over Allan’s disappearance to the Daily Record: “I hope James will get in touch soon because now we are flying to America. I’m hoping that if we don’t see him at the airport, we will see him in Boston.”

The Mercury Music Prize shortlist nominations are in, and indie artists have taken over! Usually dominated by mainstream artists, 2009′s shortlist nominations include some of our favorite artists. The dreamy Bat For Lashes is nominated for her prolific Two Suns, Florence and The Machine (tomorrow’s BeatCrave Fav) is nominated for her powerful album, Lungs, our favorite androgynous duo, La Roux (and another one of our BeatCrave Favs) is nominated for their self-titled album, and of course, Glasvegas is in the mix!
The Mercury Music Prize is an annual music prize awarded for the best album from the United Kingdom or Ireland. Each year 12 artists are chosen and are heavily promoted for their nominated album and one artist wins the glorious amount of £20,000. The Mercury Prize has a reputation for “being awarded to outside chances rather than the favorites,” but we couldn’t be happier with the short list nominees this year. See the list with all 12 artists below!

Glasgow rockers Glasvegas are set to perform a secret, but not that secret show tonight in Las Vegas to help kick off their US summer tour.
Hosted by MySpace, as part of their ongoing Secret Shows series, the concert will take place inside the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel. No word yet if there will be any weddings performed during Glasvegas’ set, but that would pretty cool if someone could make that happen.
Tonight’s Sin City concert is the first time the quartet has ever played in the glam, desert city from which they took their catchy band moniker. So, no pressure guys.

I’m a real sucker for foreign accents and bands that leave every ounce of energy they have on the stage. So, when the Scottish group Glasvegas stopped at Chicago’s Bottom Lounge, it was a perfect marrying of the two. It’s important to note that I went into this show a relative virgin when it comes to Glasvegas. I had only listened through the album about five times and I didn’t do much reading on the band beforehand; no interviews, no concert videos, nothing.
Waiting for the band to make their appearance, I was intrigued by the minimalistic set of skins on the stage. Drummer Caroline McKay kit consists of only 4 essentials; floor tom, snare, crash cymbal, and the imperative tambourine. I was surprised how such grandiose driving force could be produced with such a setup. McKay made her presence known with the lucid pounding of opener “Geraldine”. She kept “It’s My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry” chugging along just a few songs later sending the outro “It’s my own cheating heart that makes me cry!!!! cry!!!! cry!!!” to a crescendo of monumental proportions with James Allan’s wails adding the icing on the cake. Maybe it’s obvious that’s one of my favorite tracks…
