Between Gwyneth Paltrow, Britney Spears, and, uh, John Stamos, TV show “Glee” has attracted a lot of famous guest stars. However, there’s one Hollywood icon that star Chris Colfer has really set his sights on: Julie Andrews.
TV show “Glee” continues to blur the line between teen dramedy and genuine musical performance by recently picking up two Grammy nominations. While one of the nods, for Best Compilation Soundtrack, makes sense given the nature of the show in which pop songs new and old (“old” being a relative term given the age of the show’s viewers) are covered by the cast, the other nomination is pretty surprising.
Die hard music fans might know her best as the wife of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, but it turns out that Gwyneth Paltrow has some musical talent of her own. The 38 year-old actress recently filmed a movie called Country Strong in which she plays a singer named Kelly Canter. Paltrow told Extra:
Tomorrow night “Glee” will focus on uncontrollable urges, and with an episode title like “Never Been Kissed” along with the songs they’ve chosen, those urges will be sexual. “Never Been Kissed” will feature a Rolling Stones and Bon Jovi mash-up, and a Bob Marley classic duet. While “Glee” fever continues to spread across the country, one place the rabid fandom hasn’t reached appears to be the Plastic Beach. Gorillaz‘ spokesperson and songwriter, Damon Albarn, told the Associated Press that he wouldn’t let the popular show cover his band’s material, calling their work “a very poor substitute for the real thing.”
Sigh. I suppose, like the eventual heat death of the universe or the fact that word ‘Snooki’ has now entered the cultural lexicon, that this was bound to happen eventually. That doesn’t make it any easier, though: according to Billboard, Glee has now broken The Beatles’ Hot 100 record:
Child star turned teenage pop-star tease turned insane adult turned Gleek is being featured on Glee tomorrow, September 28. Not only will the Glee kids be playing a number of Britney‘s songs (a la Madonna episode in the last season), Ms. Spears will be making a cameo. How, you ask? No idea. But don’t worry, Glee isn’t this like over-the-top kind of show (sarcasm).
Glee‘s “Madonna” episode was a hit so, of course, Britney Spears‘ people demanded they have an entire show dedicated to the pop singer’s catalog as well. Whether this excites you or not, this should be the ultimate mash-up of musical prime TV and pop culture.
For fans of the show, aka “Gleeks,” Heather Morris’ character, “Brittany,” will finally break out of her randomly hilarious ditzy character and have her time in the spotlight as she’ll be taking on songs such as “I’m a Slave 4 U” – complete with green tank top, writhing, snake and all. Tonight is the big night for Gleeks everywhere as the season of Glee will premiere tonight on Fox. The hit show which focuses on social circles as well as pop songs has had their fair share of guest appearances in the last season. Noteworthy ones include mainstream stars such as Neil Patrick Harris, Josh Groban, Olivia Newton John, Molly Shannon and more while Broadway stars also took time off the stage and bounced onto the screen with the likes of Idina Menzel, Kristen Chenoweth and Johnathan Groff.
There have been rumors of Jennifer Lopez and even Susan Boyle appearing in the new season but nothing has become set in stone for those two. Gwyneth Paltrow, on the other hand, is reported to star in two episodes. More info after the jump!
