When Goldfrapp decided to go acoustic on us, we couldn’t be too upset. As great musicians, the duo equally put style into down-tempo and gorgeous folk melodies just as well as they highlight dance anthems for the discotheques.
However, if you weren’t so keen on their latest album, Seventh Tree, and long for the Supernature era again, you’ll be happy to know that Goldfrapp has just announced a new album and it sounds like they’re going back to their signature sound.

Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory were inspired by soft, delicate acoustic sounds during a radio performance they had done prior to latest album, Seventh Tree, but if you’ve actually heard the album, the term “inspired” may be an understatement here. The latest album is a drastic departure from Supernature which was dance anthem heaven. However, they do an excellent job and Goldfrapp‘s voice shines through the the surreal lush melodies they’ve woven together.
Check out a TV performance of “Clowns” below which includes the harp, acoustic guitar and strings. They’re not joking around.
