With a slowly building set that arced through a host of the band’s material, opening with a harder uptempo edge than one might expect before easing into their more placid Beach Boys meets indie pop hipsterphilia, Brooklyn’s Grizzly Bear played to an ever growing and sardine-canned audience of the devoted on Friday night in Coachella’s Mojave tent. As a cool dusk breeze filtered into the tent from the desert and sinuously worked its way from behind the stage and into the crowd, so too did Grizzly Bear’s insidiously catchy hooks and earnest dream pop.

Along with Washed Out and Toro Y Moi, one of our other favorite chillwave artists is Neon Indian. Initially just a moniker for the music Vega‘s Alan Polomo songs that didn’t quite fit wit his band, Neon Indian has now become a critically acclaimed artist by people such as Spin, Rolling Stone, and Gorilla vs. Bear for the album, Psychic Chasms.
Now Polomo’s got some fresh material for our listening pleasure and it fits right into the sounds of the 80s and electronica we love so much from him as Neon Indian. The new song, titled “Sleep Paralysist” which was co-produced by Grizzly Bear‘s Chris Taylor can be heard and downloaded after the jump!

Grizzly Bear is (by a considerable amount) one of the best bands making music today. After collaborating with Beirut and opening for Radiohead in 2008, Grizzly Bear was on the map and headed for success — today, all of their hard work paid off. Consequence of Sound reports that Grizzly Bear will be featured in an upcoming romantic drama titled Blue Valentine, starring Ryan Gosling.
Many legit bands take this route, of making soundtracks for movies. For those of us who love film and music, there is nothing better than a great film with an amazing soundtrack. Grizzly Bear will add on to the list of indie bands making music for the film industry such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arcade Fire, and Cold War Kids.

According to Pitchfork, the band also posted a message on their website saying that their “bus and trailer were hit and rendered immovable. The trailer was wrecked and the bus engine split.” Accidents of any kind are scary, but this sounded especially worrisome.

Grizzly Bear is one of those bands that never fails to come up with crazy music videos as the majority of them are more like short films. The new video for the wonderful “Ready, Able” is no different. It’s directed by Allison Schulnik and is done in clay animation with colorful monsters that melt as one. It’s really is a trip. In other news, Grizzly Bear has extended their tour through the UK and Europe that will continue into the Spring of 2010.
Check out the video and tour dates below..
