Sorry folks, but all good things must come to an end, it seems. According to Destructoid, the Guitar Hero video game franchise, one of the most successful series in recent years, has been disbanded by Activision. This also means that the less-successful DJ Hero games are done, too.

This news will surely come as a disappointment to middle-schoolers, shameless sell-out bands, and bored college students everywhere.

While the technology to create a playable crotch-sock controller is still at least a decade off (although developers are making huge leaps and we should have playable heroin and supermodel arm candy by 2014), it looks like California kids the Red Hot Chili Peppers will be getting their very own Guitar Hero game, according to SpinnerGuitar Hero makers Activision are currently polling gamers and music fans as to whether they’d enjoy a game based on the music of the long-running rock ‘n funk act.

Guitar Hero and Doritos have teamed up in a new advertisement premiering over in the UK and we thought it would be perfect for one of our “videos of the day”. The ad is something you would never get in the states because it’s a touch too offbeat and far too long for American audiences, but it’s an hilarious in its own sad kind of way. Alan is kind of like the British version of Wayne Campbell, but more socially awkward.

The 80′s Rock God still lives on inside each and every man. Check out the video…

No Doubt Sues Activision Over Band Hero

No Doubt Sues Activision Over Band Hero No Doubt Sues Activision Over Band Hero

Looks like No Doubt is joining Courtney Love in the pursuit of suing Activision.

Like Love and the remaining Nirvana members, the band originally from San Diego gave Activision permission to use their avatars in the the game, Band Hero (which is a variation of Guitar Hero) but they did also did not sign up for the No Doubt avatars to sing other bands’ songs.

We thought it was disturbing to see Kurt Cobain rap like Flava Flav or belt out Bon Jovi tunes, but to see No Doubt’s leading lady, Gwen Stefani, sing Rolling Stones‘ “Honky Tonk Women” is beyond comprehensible.

Guitar Hero CEO Says Kurt Cobain Can Sing Bon Jovi Guitar Hero CEO Says Kurt Cobain Can Sing Bon Jovi

Guitar Hero 5 is having some issues in both the legal department and their liaison with musicians. To many fans of the game, getting a certain avatar to sing other people’s songs can sound kind of fun. However, it might be a little weird to hear Kurt Cobain exclaim, “Yeah Boyeeee” like Public Enemy’s Flavor Flav or sing songs by Bon Jovi… or Bush.

Hardcore Nirvana fans do not support this feature in the game, and Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love, along with Dave Grohl and Kris Novoselic certainly don’t stand for it either. Love had threatened to sue Activision, the game’s makers, so Cobain would not be seen singing other artists’ songs in the game.

JohnnyCash Johnny Cash to Appear in Guitar Hero

Hot Dang! Guitar Hero just stepped it up a notch in my book. It turns out the next edition of the popular video game will feature another music legend. Johnny Cash may have passed on a few years ago, but he’s been reborn for the release of Guitar Hero 5. Even though I’m excited about this, I’m not sure he would be if he was alive today. He didn’t seem like the video game type if you know what I mean.

View the game’s trailer and Cash’s character specialties after the jump…
