It’s that time again. It’s time for us to pick our favorite music video of the week! A lot of good material was released over the past few days but we had to narrow it down to one. We based our decision on creativity, music, and most importantly why you won’t see it on MTV…but should!

Lollapalooza 2010 kicked off with a bang! We got a great work out from walking from one end of the festival to the other but each trek was well-worth it for all the artists we got to see on the first day. Besides, Friday’s headliner was Lady Gaga. Not many people are going to forget that whether they were thinking, “I love her!” or “She’s just creepy” or “This is too weird.” (We actually heard people say these thoughts out loud, by the way!)
However, we want to focus on all the other great acts that just offered us all they had: The music. There’s a special connection between an audience member and a band member when he or she speaks into the microphone. They can thank us for watching but we’re really just thankful they’ve brought the sounds. They can make jokes and we’ll chuckle and have a moment even though there are hundreds surrounding us. Check Lollapalooza Day 1 through our eyes with the photos below!

By 6:00, festivals tend to feel later than they actually are. So, when Hot Chip got the main Parkways stage going again, it really felt like it was a regular night time concert in your local town. Only… there was a sea of people outside rather than inside at Lollapalooza!
The English electropop brought their breezy hits such as “Over and Over” and “Ready For the Floor” to Chicago just as it was cooling down but their bright pop melodies were not afraid to challenge a sun determined to set on them.

This new video for “One Life Stand” from Hot Chip tests our depth perception, our balance and their ability to play around with the axis of whatever world they are in this little room. Lines get blurry, things are larger than they appear and it looks like Hot Chip felt the need to dance in a circle for some reason.
One Life Stand is also the name of their upcoming album which will be released in North America via Astralwerks on February 9. Check the video out below!

Everyone’s going solo these days. It doesn’t even matter if you’re part of one of the most popular indie electroncia acts around the world, and that’s what Hot Chip‘s Joe Goddard must be thinking. Because when your band is at the top of their game, why not push some of that energy into your personal project as well?
According to UK’s Fact Magazine, Goddard will be releasing a solo album titled, Harvest Festival, on November 2, 2009. The album will be put out through Greco-Roman, a label he co-founded with Alexander “Full Nelson” Waldron.

BeatCrave recently had the fortuitous opportunity to talk with Al Doyle. Doyle is 1/5 of Hot Chip and a truly significant part of the awesome, quirky and danceable group where he plays guitar, synthesizer, percussion and backing vocals. Doyle is also a critical piece of the innovative LCD Soundsystem where he plays percussion and guitar. In a music scene where everything seems so, so serious, Hot Chip is not only having fun creating their own unique sound, they are also getting a kick out of remixing popular songs into even more popular hits. BeatCrave talks with Al Doyle about the difference between Hot Chip and LCD Soundsytem, the electro-pop genre and the golden rule of remixing.
