Despite a split in the 2010 that appeared to be halfway amicable, Interpol frontman Paul Banks recently had some choice words about Interpol’s former bassist, Carlos D, who left the band last year after ten years together because “he really, really didn’t like the bass… touring’s a bitch — he didn’t like it.” On one hand, Banks maintains that Carlos is a “genius.” Then again, on the other hand, he’s “an asshole.”

In a recent interview with EyeWeekly.com, Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino shed new light on why the band’s famously mustachioed bassist Carlos D quit the band earlier this year, after having spent 10 years with the massively successful group and with a new album, Interpol, due out this September:

Interpol is making a dramatic comeback after their three-year hiatus. Everything from their dark new song, “Lights,” to Carlos D quitting the band as bassist to having canceled tour dates because of Bono’s back surgery. It’s been shaky to say the least. However, they’re back to say that they’ve just mapped out a massive North American tour with new bassist, David Pajo. To get ready for the tour, what else do they have? A dramatic new video for their single, of course.

Interpol stayed off our radars for a while but then they released the new epic song, “Lights,” and we were so happy to be talking about them again. However, the road alongside the NYC band has been incredibly bumpy since there was just a shed a light with that pleasant news. Bassist, Carlos D, quit the band and well over half of their tour dates have been canceled because U2‘s Bono suffering a back injury.

Who would have thought that one bad back would throw everything askew? Bono‘s back is causing some major trouble for the super-sexy NYC band Interpol. A few days ago, we told you guys that U2 was forced to cancel their Glastonbury gig, plus their 16-date U.S. tour due to Bono’s recent emergency surgery. Consequence of Sound tells that Interpol, being U2′s support throughout the tour, has also been forced to pull some shows. Continue Reading

Morose hipsters/ postpunkers, brace yourselves for a letdown—Interpol’s bassist, Carlos Dengler, will be leaving the group “to pursue new goals” before they launch a tour in celebration of their new, as-yet untitled fourth album. Interpol is working on a fourth studio album after what seemed like a long hiatus enough for us to forget we loved them so much back in 2002 with Turn On the Bright Lights. With vocalist Paul Blanks donning the Julian Plenti moniker and drummer Sam Fogarino becoming one half of Magnetic Morning (formerly The Setting Suns), we’re really thankful the group is back together.
The album is still untitled but we do finally have a song from the band. “Lights” is a track which deserves to be played into every one’s ears as it has all the right elements to a mini-comeback song. It’s dark, bare and mysterious to start out with but gradually builds up into the the powerful chorus backed by some major guitar work – all coming off as something magnificent. Music in 2010 just got this much better, folks.
