The Big Pink CP 3 9 2010b The Big Pink, A Place To Bury Strangers, Active Child, Io Echo: Concert Review and Photos

The Big Pink returned to Los Angeles on Tuesday night and the lineup they provided at the El Rey Theatre was not in the least bit disappointing. With openers such as Io Echo, Active Child, and A Place To Bury Strangers, the crowd packed it into the music venue and prepared themselves for some hard core noise to afflict their ear drums. BeatCrave was there to cover everything from the beginning to the end. If our photos below don’t hint at how epic it was, let us tell you in our own words.

Io Echo Headlines The Troubadour Io Echo: Concert Review

Although Io Echo has played The Troubadour many times, Tuesday night was creating quite the buzz. For this was the first time the band would be headlining the venue themselves. Every social platform was expressing excitement and there were especially a lot of retweets that mentioned the show on Twitter. Everyone seemed to include this amazing LA band in their plans for the night.

Why am I re-living the hype? Because it was all definitely justified. Io Echo headlining was one of the best things that has ever happened to LA.

BeatCrave Fav: IO Echo

ioecho09 3 19 BeatCrave Fav: IO Echo

IO Echo is not a new face to the BeatCrave nor the Los Angeles area. They’ve opened up for She Wants Revenge and shared bills with other bands such as The Duke Spirit, Polysics, and Hot Chip. They’re about to embark on another tour with video darlings, OK Go. The thing is, IO Echo doesn’t really fit into any indie genre out there today. With one listen, they’re obviously rock, but they’ve also melded this gothic darkness with dance music.

Just like so many other musicians out there, IO Echo started out with one girl writing songs for peace of mind after a breakup, but who knew the self-preservation would explode into a massive band with a following to match? If you ever get a chance to see them live, you’re in a for a sensational show. The band’s leading lady has redefined the term, “performance.” With tunes that are infectiously eerie along with her long elegant limbs, the music swells and her body looks like it’s almost forced to bounce from one side of the stage to the other. It’s almost as if the music is making her its very own string puppet. Their song, “Addicted” is a fan favorite but they’ve just started streaming the long awaited cover of the Beatles’ “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” and this track could easily conquer that spot.

Check IO Echo out in our BeatCrave Fav Series below! If you’d like to down their gothic dance concoction along with me, vote for them in Friday’s poll!
