succeed Jason Karabans Succeed 101: Single Review

Jason Karaban‘s new single Succeed 101 is unlike his previous material and yet it still gives you the same well-crafted style he’s become known for. The main difference in Succeed 101 is that there is something about it which is much more colorful than his earlier works.

In April of this year Karaban released Mayfly, a three-song EP haunted with Civil War imagery. Sullivan Ballou, a song in said EP, is a ballad with strong, meaningful lyrics about war (with perhaps some hints of hope in between). The album is comprised of three beautifully poetic, haunting songs; accompanied only by piano. I’m tempted to say that it’s even more stripped down than what he usually does (because it is), but Karaban has crafted a definite environment and mood for “Mayfly” that gives it a rich sound, for so few instruments.

jasonkaraban09 1 26 MP3s: Jason Karabans Sobreity Kills

“For me, writing songs is like the cat that falls out the window… It flips and spins and contorts itself all the way down but somehow manages to land on its feet.” – Jason Karaban.

I like that. Although if you listen to Karaban’s smooth melodies and soulful voice, you would never imagine anything flipping, twisting or wiggling out of control. His music flows together in perfect harmony and forces it’s listener to sit back, take a breath, and get washed away.
