Nice touch by Paul McCartney who paid tribute to Jimi Hendrix during his 27-song, career-spanning performance last night as he closed the Isle of Wight Festival.
McCartney dropped in a few bars of “Purple Haze” at the end of “Let Me Roll It,” a special tribute to Hendrix to mark the 40th anniversary of the guitar god’s legendary performance at the festival. It was the last major event for Hendrix before he died a few weeks later.

While we still have to wait for a Jimi Hendrix Rock Band game of his own, Music Radar is reporting that all of Hendrix’s legendary recordings will be available as downloadable content, starting with Axis: Bold As Love, along with the single “Valleys Of Neptune” on 30 March.

Valleys of Neptune, the new album of previously unavailable Hendrix studio recordings, has debuted on the Billboard 200 best-selling albums chart at #4, while four additional Hendrix catalog titles — Are You Experienced (#44), Electric Ladyland (#60), First Rays of the New Rising Sun (#63), and Axis: Bold As Love (#67) — have returned to the Billboard 200 four decades after their original release dates.

A new era of Jimi Hendrix is upon us.
In an interview with Gibson about their new Jimi Hendrix-inspired guitar, Jimi’s sister Janie noted that there is still a decade’s worth of unreleased music and video to come from the legendary guitar player.
Janie Hendrix, the president and CEO of Experience Hendrix and Authentic Hendrix, said she wants to release new material every 12 to 18 months for the next ten years.

Tomorrow, August 15th, marks the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock Music Festival. In the history of music festivals, there seems to be a hidden drive to replicate this particular one. The combination of the music and it’s calm, drugged-out tone is what makes the event stick out, especially when compared to the epic failure that was Woodstock ’99. Unfortunately for our generation, we will probably never have something that was even close to what many young people experienced 40 years ago.
