A ‘guitar hero’ if there ever was one, Jimmy Page is back in the studio recording new music. Hey, if Robert Plant can hang with country artist Alison Krauss and John Paul Jones can rock out with supergroup Them Crooked Vultures, then surely Page can find something musically creative to do while the universe waits patiently for a Led Zeppeiln reunion tour.

Page, who was inducted into the Mojo Hall Of Fame in London Thursday night, told 6 Music he was working on new material with a number of different projects.

Aerosmith TW 3 4 10 Joe Perry Confirms Steven Tyler Tried Out For Led Zeppelin

The mudslinging continues in the “are-they or aren’t-they Aerosmith” breakup that probably should have occurred fifteen years ago. Amidst rumors of a Billy Idol takeover (setting this story’s relevance back to, say, 1985), and even Paul Rogers of Bad Company (ok, 1975), Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has confirmed to Classic Rock Magazine that his current sparring partner/ supposed former lead singer Steven Tyler did try out for Led Zeppelin after Robert Plant declined to tour in 2008.

Jimmy Page Debuts New Songs From 'Loud'

While filming the documentary It Might Get Loud with Jack White and The Edge, rock god Jimmy Page produced a couple new tunes for the guitar guys to jam on.  Sure, he can always whip out “Good Times, Bad Times” and everyone goes crazy, but Page wanted to show his guitar movie cohorts he still has plenty left in the creative tank.

“A couple of sort of sketches,” is how Page describes the tracks, “Embryo No. 1″ and “Embryo No.2,” to Billboard. The Led Zep founder says the two songs represent the first step towards making even more new music in the future.

The two songs carry the ‘embryo’ label because they are still… in development, as it were. Page did say he performed the songs with other musicians recently and should be re-working them in the studio – along with other new songs – fairly soon.

Music videogame Guitar Hero might have lost just a touch of its mojo now that Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page and The White Stripes’ Jack White have said they don’t feel video games are the best way to expose people to music, or to teach them to play instruments.

Page and White made their comments about the popularity of the rhythm action genre last week at a press conference in L.A. to promote the upcoming documentary It Might Get Loud.

With less than a month before the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival reveals its 2009 lineup, to take place June 11-14 in Manchester, TN, music fans are getting antsy. And we all know what happens when music get antsy about lineups: they start rumors. Here’s are some band names floating around so far:

Led Zeppelin: I’ve got four words for everyone: Here we go again. Yes, John Paul Jones played Zeppelin classics with Ben Harper in two separate performances in 2007, and yes, Robert Plant jammed on some of the band’s tunes with Alison Krauss at last year’s festival. But let’s face it, there are Zeppelin-at-Bonnaroo rumors every year. Sadly, the dream of seeing Zeppelin headline Bonnaroo may be nothing more than a fantasy, especially considering Robert Plant’s informal announcement that he will be focusing on other performances for the next two years and recent comments from Jimmy Page’s manager, Peter Mensch:

jimmy page ‘Led Zeppelin are over’ says manager

Jimmy Page’s manager Peter Mensch told Musicradar that the band is over and will not tour any more, despite many indications to the contrary. After Robert Plant received a CBE from the Queen of England, and said he would not be doing a reunion tour with the band, it looks like the 2007 concert at the London O2 Arena was Zeppelin’s last.

“Led Zeppelin are over,” Mensch said, “If you didn’t see them in 2007, you missed them. It’s done. I can’t be any clearer than that.”

He added: “They tried out a few singers, but no one worked out. That was it. The whole thing is completely over now. There are absolutely no plans for them to continue. Zero. Frankly, I wish everybody would stop talking about it.”

jackbruce Jack Bruce Tells Led Zeppelin To Fuck Off

In a rather odd rant while talking to Classic Rock magazine, Jack Bruce of Cream went batty talking about Led Zeppelin. He attacks the band as a whole, the reunion gig in London last year and Jimmy Page as a guitarist.

Read the rant after jump.
