Lissie was one of our BeatCrave Favs for a really good reason. Besides the obvious fact that she has an amazing voice that reaches into the depths of your soul, Lissie is one hell of a musician. If there is a year for indie folk musicians to take over our iPods, it’ll be this one right now thanks to Lissie and her covers.
We’ve already brought you her cover of Lady Gaga‘s “Bad Romance,” and now we have a live cover of Metallica‘s “Nothing Else Matters.” Yes, it’s quite the dramatic jump between the two genres but this is just credibility shown in the most flattering spotlight. Although Lissie may look like a frail damsel, don’t be fooled. Her voice has enough grit and power to take on big names such as Metallica. Check it out below!

We have to admit that we were a bit skeptical about Lady Gaga‘s artistry in the beginning. However, when she released the song and accompanying video for “Bad Romance,” we couldn’t help but jump on the Gaga train. Not only was she dripping in Alexander McQueen fashion in the outrageously freak-of-nature themed video but it’s also the perfect mainstream pop song in many ways. So it doesn’t surprise us to know that there are probably hundreds of decent covers by all sorts of musicians, but we’ve found one that is done exceptionally well.

As of late, there’s been a Country/Folk upswing of sorts in terms of music. Lissie Maurus, who only uses her first name as her stage name, is a name that adds itself to the list. Born and raised in Illinois, Lissie sings about everything from cornfields to love. Produced by Band of Horses Bassist Bill Reynolds, her debut EP, Why You Runnin’, was released late last year in November and her popularity has only grown since then.
Her new album, set to be released later this year, was made in conjunction with Jacquire King (of Kings of Leon fame) in Nashville last year. Lissie has played in various coffee shops and has even been on tour with Lenny Kravitz. With the eccentric resume she’s built in the past few years, it’s no wonder that she accredits her influences to pie, cigarettes, porches, corn hole, and waiting in line!

Lissie has come a long way from running around in the coffee shop circuit. Going on tour with Lenny Kravitz, providing vocals on a hit DJ Morgan Page song (“The Longest Road”), and releasing her debut EP, Why You Runnin’, in November have all prepared her to take on the world. However, with her powerhouse vocals, any first-time listener will be the one who has to prepare his or her own soul in which Lissie’s vocals and lyrics resonate so strongly with honesty.
