Local Natives Reviews, Interviews & More
The Local Natives have announced a massive seven-month tour across the world. This will be in support of their sophomore album, Hummingbird, which the band released this past January. The tour will kick off in Australia this week, then they'll head to North America in June, and Europe in July. They'll come back to the States in early September and then cross the pond...
This week, while promoting his new line of headphones, 50 Cent told a French press outlet that Dr. Dre's often-delayed album Detox might not be an album after all. He's thinking it's just an EP with only a few songs on it. Also, tickets for The Rolling Stones' London shows went on sale this morning and sold out in seven minutes. And The Local Natives announced the...
Local Natives had a pretty great start to their tour over the weekend. It was probably one they had only dreamed of having when they were only playing residency shows at Silverlake Lounge or Spaceland. Fast forward a year later and they're off on another grueling tour across the nation and kicking it all off with two sold out shows at the Henry Fonda Music Box. I could say...
Like Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Local Natives have played almost every summer festival there was this year and we don't blame the booking agents. They strive to get acts while they're hot but with Local Natives, they won't have to worry about their popularity dying down for a while. With the successful release of their debut album, Gorilla Manor, both in the...
We called it - the hot, humid days of summer are finally here, and naturally we're looking for anything to distract us from the notion (and reality) of 24/7 sweat and hiked-up energy bills. Yes, as the heat ramps up into the triple digits across the country, we're hard at work looking for local shows that will not only boast debatably awesome talent, but whose ticket prices will remain at...
It may only be Wednesday but we've got a roundup of some great tunes that you can download for free to make the rest of the week go by much quicker. It's beginning to feel a lot more like summer and you definitely need to beef those iPod playlists up for parties and road trips. We point you in the right direction for new tracks from Kid Cudi, Best Coast, Vampire Weekend, Jenny and Johnny,...
Local Natives is not a new band to us, nor should they be to you! We've only covered them so many times on the site that we're a little embarrassed of our obvious band crush. So, with that kept in mind, you knew we weren't going to miss their first Sasquatch moment. After their popularity spread like wildfire during 2009, those who actually attended Sasquatch...
Although we thought their last video for "Airplanes" could have been a bit brighter to match the tone of the song, Local Natives return with a very sunny video for their song, "World News." Directed by Matthew Lessner, the same guy who directed Dirty Projectors' "Stillness Is The Move" video, the latest Local Natives video also doesn't make much sense....
On day 3 of the SXSW Music Festival, Austin, TX is exploding with people. Walking down 6th street can take ages while trying to navigate the bustling crowd. My Friday afternoon started out with The Golden Filter, a band that shows a lot of promise based on their presence in the blogosphere. Penelope Trappes has got one wicked voice and the recent addition of a...
Local Natives has a new video for their hit song, "Airplanes." Although we do like their live split screen videos, this one steps into an old abandoned house where their portraits are touched by a supernatural force making the setting unexpectedly eerie despite the sweet lyrics.
Watch out for skulls, paranormal activity, and vegetables suddenly attacking in the video below....
There is no doubt that 2009 has been a great year for music. We've had fun listening and sharing some of these artists with you through our BeatCrave Fav series, and we've also compiled a Top Albums of 2009 list like everyone else.
Today, we're going to skip ahead and focus on the future and what great music will be coming our way in 2010. January is only a few weeks away and we want to fill...
Los Angeles favorites, Local Natives, have been busy on their NME tour all over the UK and Europe for the past couple of months. However, we finally have some great news for US fans. Local Natives has been signed to US label, Frenchkiss Records! They'll be joining a worthy roster which includes The Antlers, Passion Pit, The Dodos and more.
If you've been following Local...

Local Natives charmed their crowd with lush harmonies and frenetic percussion. Just wait. It won't be this easy to see these guys in a few years.

Sunset Junction continued for Day 2 on a pleasant Sunday afternoon. It was still hot but my comfort level was much higher than it was during the previous day. The sun was just hot enough and it set just at the right time providing the perfect breeze for acts such as Fool's Gold, The Sonics, and Built To Spill.
The ticket booth was all ready to go and going through the media...

Last night was the second night of Local Natives' residency at the beloved Spaceland and the corner of Effie and Silverlake Blvd looked as busy as Hollywood.
It was another packed venue for the band this night since the place was sold out. That's saying a lot when Monday night residencies at Spaceland are free. After I looked for what seemed like an eternity and actually...

Voxhaul Broadcast (and Friends) | Friday, May 8 | 8:00 pm | $8 - $10 | Spaceland, Los Angeles, CA - Map | The Orange County-based band comes baring a style that is at once tough and mellow, intricate and easy to digest. Seems to us that they're attempting a subconscious approach at standing out by blending in pseudo-seamlessly with the crowd. Sneaky, much? In either case,...
