If you happened to be one of the probable millions to catch the Super Bowl halftime show last Sunday night, in addition to seeing Madonna’s formaldehyde-enhanced, voodoo-risen body silently perform a series of ritualistic dances while synching her once-living lips to a series of pre-recorded words, you might have noticed co-performer M.I.A. letting the world know how edgy she is by flipping the bird and exclaiming that  “Imma say this one, yeah, I don’t give a s***.”  Well, it turns out Madge wasn’t too impressed with the thunder-stealing outburst.

In one of the more bizarre and ridiculous Super Bowl halftime shows in recent memory, Madonna’s performance on Sunday night featured the singer on a golden throne while wearing a golden headdress, surrounded by half-naked gladiators as she lip-synched her way through a batch of old hits and new songs.  There was some controversy,  there was some “edginess,” and there was some just plain weirdness.

Saying the economy is going through a rough time is an understatement with all the financial problems we have going on. Even with Live Nation Entertainment, the biggest corporation in booking big acts at high prices, suffering tours and festivals are still trying to do what they can with the little resource we have called money. So now that the Virgin Mobile FreeFest has returned for 2010, fans should be beyond elated to know that they can catch headliners M.I.A., LCD Soundsystem and Pavement performing for the cost of $0. Believe it or not, the festival name is not a joke. You can see these acts and more perform for free again on September 25th. See more details after the jump!

HARD L.A. With M.I.A. Canceled For Security Concerns HARD L.A. With M.I.A. Canceled For Security Concerns

[UPDATE: Full Statement from HARD Fest website at the end of the article.]

HARD LA nor M.I.A. just can’t seem to catch a break. M.I.A. may have inflicted all the bad press going toward her new lackluster album on her own with all the obnoxious talk to only create controversies for viral purposes but the HARD Fest is another story in itself. Although HARD Fest books the best upcoming and talented artists to come out of the electronic-based scene of the year, who doesn’t remember the chaos that tends to come along with it? Who doesn’t remember when it was stopped midway through last year because of over-zealous fans? Who doesn’t remember Crystal Castles‘ Alice Glass getting kicked in the head resulting in a severe concussion?

HARD Fest stays true to its name with its fan base who likes to party rough and with the numerous amount of injuries at this year’s Electric Daisy Carnival, the July 17th concert featuring M.I.A. and other noteworthy acts has been canceled for security purposes.

Word on the street is that M.I.A.’s third record, /\/\/\Y/\ due out July 13, 2010, has been leaked. BeatCrave recently had a chance to give it a listen and the end result was this: /\/\/\Y/\ is a beast! M.I.A. does what she does best; she mixes genres and ruffles feathers and assaults the senses in a multi-dimensional manner, churning out rough, raw, and sometimes viscerally intense beats that give her music a layer of grit that other contemporary female artists lack.
