Pitchfork reports that indie folkster Joanna Newsom came out swinging in a recent interview with The Guardian, lambasting two female musicians whose dedication to image, in her opinion, completely supersedes their ability to actually make listenable music. Or, as she puts it, Lady Gaga’s music is all “glowsticks” and “Madonna’s a dumb-ass”:
It goes to show you—drop Madonna’s greatest hits into a blender, sprinkle a little Bowie on it and then cover it with AutoTune, and voila–you’re set. At least, according to MTV, who reports that pop oddball Lady Gaga has been named as one of Time Magazine’s Most Influential People. But, before you exclaim that this validates Gaga’s artistry and brilliance and whatever else the kids in the comments wall will claim, know that while the list includes such luminaries as President Barack Obama, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, and Apple’s Steve Jobs, it also features such immortal icons as Taylor Swift and Robert Pattinson. As for which camp Gaga will fall in, only time (or record sales, either way) will tell.

Last night was a special night for Gleeks. Not only did they get two original Broadway cast members of Spring Awakening (Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff) singing together alongside Wicked’s legendary Idina Menzel, but they also got a preview of the upcoming “Power of Madonna” episode. To get fans even more pumped up, Fox showed their version of “Vogue” which stars none other than the mean Sue Sylvester played by Jane Lynch.
No Coldplay for you, Glee fans. Word is the band has rejected an offer to have their music used on the singing and dancing TV show. For the record, awesome rocker Bryan Adams also put the kibosh on Glee covering his tunes.
But series creator Ryan Murphy did confirm the show will feature Madonna and Lady Gaga in upcoming episodes. But no Coldplay. Got it?
In an effort to help the poor children of Brazil, pop star Madonna spent some time this week with Sao Paulo state Gov. Jose Serra – a likely candidate for the 2010 campaign to succeed Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
It seems Madonna made quite an impression on the politician.
First, Oprah did it and now Madonna‘s joining the club. After adopting two children from the country, Madonna has started construction on a multi-million all girls school in Malawi.
The notorious pop icon arrived in Malawi on Sunday with all four of her children for a special ceremony in Chinkhota (only 6 miles from the country’s captial, Lilongwe) where she and eldest daughter, Lourdes, planted a Moringa tree in honor of this venture.
Throughout her long and exciting career, Madonna has been called plenty of things. Let’s add ‘bad neighbor’ to the list.
It seems Madonna has the volume turned up a touch loud for her fellow Central Park West building tenants, specifically Karen George, who lives above Madonna in the chichi building. George filed a lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court on Friday against the co-op board, accusing it of not taking action against Madonna for the noise and disruption.
According to the lawsuit, neighbors have to deal with “blaring music, stomping and shaking walls” from Madonna’s $4-million, seventh-floor apartment for up to three hours a day.
Madonna has got some serious fans over at MySpace. The pop icon is currently featured on the homepage of MySpace Music. With the debut of the site’s new welcome page, you get to check out the singer’s latest music video for her single “Celebration.” The video featured is an official “Fan Version,” which includes die hard Madonna followers from all over the world.
