Once again, the queen of pop has topped the charts. Madonna‘s MDNA debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this week, making it her eight album to land on top. But despite her eight chart-toppers, Madge is just second place among women with the most No. 1 albums; Barbra Streisand holds the record.
Madonna‘s new music video “Girl Gone Wild” features plenty of wild boys dancing around in sky-high heels. The new video is reminiscent of her 1990 video “Vogue“; both are shot in black-and-white, and feature an all-male cast of dancers. Watch “Girl Gone Wild” below.
If you happened to be one of the probable millions to catch the Super Bowl halftime show last Sunday night, in addition to seeing Madonna’s formaldehyde-enhanced, voodoo-risen body silently perform a series of ritualistic dances while synching her once-living lips to a series of pre-recorded words, you might have noticed co-performer M.I.A. letting the world know how edgy she is by flipping the bird and exclaiming that “Imma say this one, yeah, I don’t give a s***.” Well, it turns out Madge wasn’t too impressed with the thunder-stealing outburst.
In one of the more bizarre and ridiculous Super Bowl halftime shows in recent memory, Madonna’s performance on Sunday night featured the singer on a golden throne while wearing a golden headdress, surrounded by half-naked gladiators as she lip-synched her way through a batch of old hits and new songs. There was some controversy, there was some “edginess,” and there was some just plain weirdness.
Because if there is one thing football fans tune into the Super Bowl for, it’s the chance to catch the live televised debut of a new Madonna single, rumor has it that Madge will be performing her soon-to-be-released new single, “Give Me All Your Luvin,’” during her set at the halftime show of the Super Bowl on February 5th.
Elton John‘s husband David Furnish had a strong, negative reaction to Madonna‘s Sunday night win at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards. Like John, Madonna was nominated for Best Original Song, but when Adam Levine announced Madonna as the winner, neither John nor Furnished took it well. It seems like the start of yet another pop diva feud.
Finally acknowledging what most listeners could already hear and know, Madonna noted in a new interview with Newsweek that Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” bears a ridiculously strong resemblance to Madonna’s own “Express Yourself.” Madonna at least tried to be polite about it, however.
Well, it has been confirmed—after we reported to you in early October that Madonna was rumored to be the halftime performer for Super Bowl XLVI on February 5th at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, it was announced over the weekend that Madge would indeed performing the show, and would be backed by Cirque du Soleil dancers.
